England 41 Chinese Taipei 0England put last night’s loss to France behind them by beating Chinese Taipei 41-0 in the second day of the Rugby World Cup Sevens in Hong Kong. England’s performance showed they had gone some way to rediscover the impressive form they displayed yesterday morning in their wins over Georgia and Italy, but a few basic errors were still present by the three time Hong Kong Sevens winners.
Richard Haughton (Saracens) and Ugo Monye (NEC Harlequins) once again proved invaluable by both scoring tries (Haughton scored twice taking his tournament tally to six). Also scoring tries for England were Ben Gollings, Henry Paul (Gloucester), Rob Thirlby (Penzance & Newlyn) and Neil Starling (Northampton Saints). Ben Gollings was successful with two conversions and captain Simon Amor (Gloucester) secured another conversion to leave the final score at 41-0.
The clean sheet could prove crucial as the fight for the top two positions in Pool B continues.
England play Samoa today at 10.53am UK time.
