Lawrence Dallaglio launches Walk of Legends

Monday 14th November 2005
Lawrence Dallaglio MBE is already assured of his place in England rugby history thanks to his 73 caps for his country, but today at Twickenham Stadium, the London Wasps Number 8 today unveiled an exciting new initiative for loyal England supporters.

As part of the construction of Twickenham Stadium's new South Stand the RFU will be building an England Rugby Walk of Legends. The walkway will run from the South Stand past the famous Lion Gate to extend around the ground.  Fans are being invited to have their name and message engraved in granite stone alongside England Rugby legends such as Dallaglio, Jason Leonard, Bill Beaumont and the Underwood brothers.

The funds raised from the Walk of Legends will help pay for the new Twickenham Stadium South Stand development.

Speaking on the new England Rugby Walk of Legends, Dallaglio said, "This is a great opportunity for England fans to have their names etched in rugby history.  Twickenham is the home of rugby and a very special place for players and fans alike. I am proud to have my name engraved in stone alongside legends of the game such as Martin Johnson and Fran Cotton."

There is a range of granite stones to choose from including an exclusive England Rose Stone.  Running throughout the walkway, which will be completed when the new Twickenham Stadium South Stand is unveiled in 2007, will be a number of centre stones named after legendary rugby players who have represented England over the years.  Fans will be invited to vote for these legends over the coming months.

There are a limited number of stones available and they will be laid on a ‘first-come, first-laid’ basis.
