Andy Robinson press conference

June 2006
England Head Coach, Andy Robinson, OBE announced this morning that Gloucester winger, James Simpson-Daniel would not be fit fo the second test against Australia on June 17th. He said that James's leg was still painful and swollen.

Andy Robinson confirmed that the other mmbers of the squad were all fit."Everyone else is fine and the atmosphere in the squad is good but it's all about how we play on the day and our performance. We're going to have to work very hard to win the game and the players will find out something about themselves. The Wallaby front row is strong and they are powerful scrummagers. A lot of people are talking about the importance of the scrum but we must look at the line out, which is another area which will be highly contested on the day.

"I think we can handle the physicality of the game but it's all about handling it on the day.

Asked about Graham Rowntree (Leicester Tigers) coming back into the side, Andy Robinson said "Graham has been picked to do a job. He has had some knocks in his career, like not making the RWC 30 man squad but he has always responded. With the injuries we had to some of our props Graham was the ideal person to come into the side and he is one of the proudest people ever to wear an England shirt. He may have thought his England days were over but he is an outstanding person with great values. Could he make the RWC 2007 30 man squad? Only time will tell and that is down to him but I have brought him into do a job.

Andy Robinson concluded the briefing by stressing how important it is to empower the players "We've all got to step up to the plate. It's about the players making decisions in defence and attack and all XV of them being on board together.
