England bounced back from a heavy defeat by Wales in their opening match of the season to draw their first game against Scotland at Braidholm, home of the GHA club in Glasgow.
 
Despite atrocious weather conditions both sides managed to produce an enthralling contest in which England secured the draw with a late try from Gavin Jackson (Knottingley) which winger Mike Keeling of Stone improved.
 
Keeling gave England an early lead with a penalty inside the first five minutes but poor tackling allowed Scotland to score four unconverted tries before half time to take an apparent stranglehold on the game.
 
England reduced the lead to ten points when number eight Matt Gilbert (Dover) was driven over and Keeling added the conversion which was followed by their second try from winger Matt Woodward (Chinnor) deep into first half injury-time.
 
Keeling's second conversion reduced Scotland's lead to just three points at the break and set up an intriguing second half. England defended resolutely to deny Scotland another score until the 65th minute when a converted try stretched the lead to ten points.
 
But England managed to break out of defence and build sufficient pressure for Keeling to land an important penalty. Englandagain showed patience and determination, winning important possession with a turnover which gave Jackson space to cross for the final try and for Keeling to snatch the draw with his nerveless conversion.
