England players’ reaction to their 42-20 victory over Scotland in the RBS 6 Nations

February 3rd, 2007

Mike Tindall (Gloucester Rugby)  “I haven’t played with Jonny for three years and to see him come back, it didn’t look like he’d been away. He certainly did the job today.”

Toby flood (Newcastle Falcons) “It was a fantastic game and I am very happy to get my first cap.”

Olly Morgan (Gloucester) “I don’t think it has sunk in yet getting my first cap. I’ll probably wake up in the morning and think wow. I can’t ask for much more, I am really pleased.”

Josh Lewsey (London Wasps)  At times today it was hard but enjoyable. It was a good team performance and we want to build on that. Scotland were very physical. I thought the forwards drove very well and gave us a good platform to work from. When you have got a 10 and 12 combination that makes the right decisions and have the skill set to distribute the ball creatively, it gives us the platform for the rest of us to play from.”

Andy Farrell (Saracens) “The occasion was fantastic. Playing for your country was always going to be special but I really enjoyed it and I have got a thousand people to thank. The Twickenham crowd are very special and it was certainly a proud moment for me playing at the heart of England Rugby. The Scots were hard to grind down. They defended well, but I thought our half-backs controlled the game well. We stuck to our guns, we didn’t go off script. It worked well, we scored 42 points, and in the second-half most of my running was chasing Harry Ellis!”

Magnus Lund (Sale Sharks)  “The result was certainly a platform we can build on. Everyone worked hard. The crowd were amazing; we could hear everyone behind us the whole game and Jonny certainly helped us with that and Jason with the first try. We now have to keep our feet on the ground. We have got a long way to go, but it was a great start and a step in the right direction.”

Jason Robinson (Sale Sharks) “In training there was a feeling that all the players wanted it. For me I wanted to get out there and play well in an England shirt. It has not been easy watching it but hopefully this is a new start for us. When you look around everyone seems to be excited by this team.”

Harry Ellis (Leicester Tigers)  “Brian Ashton has given us the opportunity to play what we see. I think we took our opportunities and scored our tries well. I am pleased with my game, but there are always things to work on. I had a bit of a slow start to my season but it is great to be back. There were a lot of new players in the team and we took a while to get the structure going but the pack delivered quick ball and it was a scrum-half’s dream.”
