Students unchanged for France rematch

March 8, 2007

England Students have named an unchanged side as they attempt to complete an unprecedented double over France at in Oxford tomorrow night (7pm).

The Students claimed their first win on French soil in 14 years with their heroic 8-6 win in Cahors last month secured by a try from Durham fly-half Alistair Simmie and a penalty kicked by Loughborough scrum-half Toby Henry.

Now the challenge is to repeat the result at Iffley Road after coaches Steve Hill (Oxford) and Patrick Jerran (Bedford Modern School) have worked on the attacking side of their game in training at St Edward's School this week.

The game will be the last international for Tony Lanaway, who bows out after 12 years managing the side.

On the eve of the RBS 6 Nations clash with France at Twickenham it's also an opportunity for the students to stress their role in developing young players with three old boys in the senior side.

"We're delighted to have been able to select the same squad again that did so heroically in Cahors," said Lanaway.

"Steve Hill and Patrick Jerran have been able to work hard on attacking with the squad this week and we're hoping to expand that side of our game and give spectators a treat.

"All the squad are thrilled that three former England Students players are in senior side this weekend in the shape of Dave Strettle, Nick Easter and Tim Payne and the student game still has an important role to play in developing young players."

The second-tier students side England Universities are also in action tomorrow against their Irish counterparts at the Bellsfield Bowl ground of University College Dublin (2.30pm).
