ERFSU 16 GROUP NORTH DIVISION - ASSISTANT COACH (BACKS)

Appointment to be made for 2008/09 & 2009/10

ERFSU 16 GROUP NORTH DIVISION - ASSISTANT COACH (BACKS)

Appointment to be made for two years

 

The North’s Assistant Coaches work in a team of two, under the direction of the Director of Coaching.  There are two Assistant Coaches; one coach is in charge of the forwards and another in charge of the backs. The whole team is expected to work in conjunction and co-operation with each other, to produce the North’s Divisional squad and, when required, to produce the Northern Counties team.   

 

The appointment is for TWO years subject to an annual review, based on the assessment made of coaches by the England coaching structure following the ERFSU/England 16 Group Festivals. 

THE NORTH COACHING GROUP’S TASK

1

To help create a purposeful and appropriate atmosphere, enabling each player to develop to his potential, and 'sow the seeds' for future progress and success;

2

To assist in the organisation of the player-development programme stimulating good practice through structured coaching and administration;

3

Coaches will need to be able to work independently but within the parameters set by the England Coach and Divisional Directors of Coaching.

TIME COMMITMENT

1

Attend the 16 Group Coaches meeting in November. (Saturday/Sunday);

2

Observe 16 Group County fixtures (from October to December), to include;

3

Attendance at the two Divisional Festival days, assisting in the grading procedures;

4

Attendance at the North’s 'Fifty Plus' weekend (mid December: Friday/Saturday/Sunday);

5

Attendance at the Divisional trial and assist with the grading of players at that event; 

6

Prepare the Divisional Squad for the ERFSU/England 16 Group Festivals by attending at the Squad Development weekend prior to the Festivals (early January: Saturday/Sunday);

7

Attend the two ERFSU/England 16 Group Festivals in January, giving input as required;

8

Attend the 'wash-up' meeting of 16 group personnel in May (If necessary); and

9

Assist in the preparation of any 'Northern Counties ' squad activities that may occur.  

PERSONAL QUALITIES

The successful candidate will be a male or female, and:

1

self-motivated to update skills to coach in an ever-changing game;

2

able to work within a team of coaches to prepare the North Squad for its games;

3

will form an effective liaison with Selectors and Team Manager;

4

holds (at least) an RFU ‘Level 2’ coaching award;

5

will have played rugby to a 'good standard';

6

is an experienced coach, having coached to at least to County level or its equivalent; and

7

is strongly committed to 16 Group activities. 

This is a voluntary role, although traveling costs are reimbursed (other items with the specific & prior approval of the North’s Treasurer).   The position is subject to appropriate CRB Disclosure.
