Top French club USAP will announce this week that they will grant England international, Dan Luger's request to be released from his contract one year earlier than planned. The 30 year-old winger, who has played over 40 games for Perpignan in the last 18 months, has asked to leave the club at the end of this season.
"Having come to Perpignan straight from Australia in 2003, I have started to feel that my body requires a longer lay-off than the French club season can offer," said Luger. "My plan is to take a sabbatical from playing until the end of the year. I'm going to rest, build up to full fitness and weigh up the rugby options while pursuing business opportunities in Croatia. The club, players and fans at USAP have been fantastic from the first day and I wish them the rugby success they deserve."
Dan Luger left NEC Harlequins for Perpignan at the end of the 2002-03 domestic season, but England's preparation for the RWC 2003 delayed his debut for the Catalan club until December 2003. Luger has scored 24 tries in his 38 appearances for England.
