Tony Roques England Profile

Updated 27 March 2007

Anthony Roques
Club: Exeter Chiefs
Position: Flanker
Born: 07.09.78
Place of Birth: Bromley
Height: 1.88m
Weight: 95kgs

Tony `Rocky’ Roques has been a regular member of the England Sevens squad since 2002 and names winning the Hong Kong Sevens as the highlight of his career to date.  A serious knee injury in October 2005 kept him out of action but he has returned to fitness and form this season with the Chiefs.  His huge power and pace and tackle count is exceptional, a fact acknowledged by his former club Saracens when they made him their Player Of the Year in 2001/2.

Tony has represented England through the age groups, captaining the England 18 Group schools side that excelled during the 1997 tour of Australia, and made well over 100 appearances during his time at Saracens.  Educated at Crown Woods School, Sevenoaks, and Brunel University he was also a talented basketball player and track & field athlete.  Tony moved from London Irish to Exeter Chiefs in the summer of 2005.

He is a member of the core England Sevens squad this season and played in Dubai as part of the Samurai St Georges squad as part of his rehabilitation to the senior squad.   Tony made a remarkable return from his leg injury to play England Sevens again in Wellington and San Diego in February.
