Phil Greening England profile

27 November 2006

Current Role: England Sevens Assistant Coach
Born: 03.10.75
Place of Birth: Gloucester

Phil joined the sevens management team having retired from playing with London Wasps in October 2005.  Known as Philis, hooker Greening joined Wasps in March 2000 from Sale.  He began his career in his hometown of Gloucester.  Phil has represented England at every level and earned the first of his 24 caps for England in 1998.  He toured Australia with the 2001 British Lions and was a key member of the London Wasps side that won 4 trophies in the 2002-3 and 2003-4 seasons.

Phil is no stranger to sevens having played and captained the England sevens squad.  He last played in 2002 in the 2002/03 season in the Hong Kong Sevens and Emirates Airline London Sevens.

Phil says he found it hard adapting to coaching instead of playing – especially when England won the Emirates Airline Dubai Sevens – his first tournament as Assistant Coach!

Phil moved to Singapore last season and currently works for the Standard Chartered Bank.

He has recently set up his own charity called the Sporting Chance Foundation which helps children living on the streets of Cambodia.
