England Under-16s name squads for training games

The England 16 Group selectors have named their squads for two practice matches on Saturday February 23 which will conclude the five-day squad development camp at Hartpury College in Gloucestershire.

Using the same smart training facilities as Guinness Premiership club Gloucester Rugby, the 60 players in the England Under-16 development squad have been put through their paces at Hartpury by lead coach Gareth Rees and his assistant coaches and support staff.

Saturday’s two practice matches – England v Millfield School Under-17 preceded by England A v The Rest (a George Squires Invitational side) – will be played over two periods of 25 minutes and one of 20, and will allow the selectors another good look at the players available to them.

Owen Farrell and George Ford, sons respectively of Saracens’ England centre Andy and England defence coach Mike, have made the main 28-man England squad, which is a good indicator of future selection though nothing is set in stone.

Owen Farrell has been named captain of the England side for this practice match.

The remaining players from the development camp are in the 30-strong England A squad or The Rest side which includes other players from around the country.

Two squads of 26 players each will be named by the selectors next week to continue preparations for England’s Four Nations Tournament in France in March, and England A’s Millfield International Festival in March and April.
