The seaside attractions of Brighton are on offer to teams entering the inaugural passingiton charity rugby sevens tournament on Saturday May 31.
Organisers promise a social, family orientated day aimed partly at introducing rugby to those who may never have played before.
Brighton is known for its party atmosphere and the aim is for this sevens festival to grow and attract teams from all over the south of England and further afield.
The passingiton charity is a community charity which encourages people to come together and help change the lives of those less fortunate, both locally and abroad. They raise money to build facilities at a school in Nairobi, Kenya and also raise money to set up, maintain and develop after-school clubs for children living in East Brighton.
The sevens will be held at the Waterhall playing fields in Brighton and the day will start at 11am with a TAG rugby taster session, for adults and children, led by an RFU qualified coach. Participants will be asked to give a small charitable donation for the session.
The sevens from midday will comprise 16 teams of up to 10 players each, with each squad paying a £50 entry fee that goes directly to the charity. Entries close May 20, 2008 – and it is ‘first come, first served’.
As well as a cup and medals the winning team will also get the opportunity of hosting this 7s tournament next year at their venue.
There will be a licensed bar serving alcoholic drinks, soft drinks and bar snacks in the Brighton RFC clubhouse. There will also be a wine marquee selling wine provided by the sponsor St Martin Vintners.
More information about the charity and the sevens event can be found at www.passingiton.org.uk.
