Clubs' Grand Draw 2007-8 - Results and Winners

May 2008

Dear Colleague,

I am delighted to announce that in the five years that the Draw has been running, the 90% (75% in Year 1) received by the Clubs which have taken part has now reached £1.4 million!

May I also take this opportunity to thank you and your Club for participating in Grand Draw 2007-8.  I am sure you will be pleased to learn that 695 clubs took part generating over £440,000 in ticket sales (up £55k on last year’s figures) of which the Clubs’ 90% is worth over £396,000 (up £50k).

Following the success of last year’s “Schools Trial” it was decided, this year, to invite all schools in membership of the England Rugby Football Schools Union to take part and their participation is included in the figures above.

Top of the list raising the most money was Sandbach RUFC (Cheshire) with a stunning £8,309 which wins them the first prize of a Hospitality Package for 2 people to an autumn international match 2008.  In second place, winning £500 was Bracknell RFC (Berkshire) with a superb £8,190 and Richmond RFC (Surrey) with £6,607, came third winning the Keith Kent Pitch Consultancy Package.  In fourth place with £6,000, were Huddersfield RUFC  (Yorkshire) who win £250.

In total 23 clubs raised over £2,500 and a further 101 clubs over £1,000.  It just goes to show what a superb fund-raising scheme this is and what can be achieved - even by smaller clubs. To all these clubs go my congratulations!

“First out of the hat” in the Draw for selling £100 of tickets or more and returning on time, was Morganians RFC (Somerset) which has won them a Hospitality Package for 2 people to an autumn international match 2008 and the second prize of £500 goes to Lowestoft and Yarmouth RFC (E. Counties).  The third prize - the Keith Kent Pitch Consultancy Package – goes to Thetford RFC (E. Counties) and the fourth prize of £250 was won by Oadby Wyggestonian RFC (Leicestershire).

Attached is the full list of both the Club Prizewinners and the Individual Prizewinners in the main Grand Draw together with the name of the selling Club.  If your’s is amongst them congratulations!  This list has been posted on the RFU website at www.rfu.com with a link from the Home Page

The Draw will revert to its “normal” launch time of mid-October next season and I urge every member club and school to take part in this superb Scheme.  Details, together with a pre-Registration Form, will be available on the RFU Website (at www.rfu.com) in mid-August.  For those who don’t pre-register every club (including Schools in membership of ERFSU) will automatically receive a Starter Kit, which will be sent to the Hon. Secretary (who appears in Rugby First. Start early and incorporate the Grand Draw in your fund-raising plans.

Finally, I must thank our prize donors (listed at the top of the attached Winners List) for their generous contributions.

Kind regards,

Simon Winman
Promoter & Secretary, RFU Draw Society
