Colin Charvis gives his support for Help for Heroes
Colin Charvis will get his first taste of competitive coaching when the Magners League kicks-off this weekend, but the Dragons assistant coach can't wait to get back onto the field as a player in the Help for Heroes Challenge Match at Twickenham Stadium on Saturday, 20 September (ko 2.30pm).
The 94-times capped legendary Wales and British Lions back row forward will be lining up for Scott Gibbs' International Select XV and he’s relishing the chance to join in rugby’s big charity push.
"It's an unbelievable honour to be invited to play in the Help for Heroes rugby challenge match. It’s a great opportunity for the rugby community to show support for our service men and women in Iraq and Afghanistan and, hopefully, the game will hit its target and raise in excess of £1m for this charity," said Charvis.
"Living constantly in a dangerous and volatile environment, our service men and women deserve the best support possible when returning to the UK. Help for Heroes offers tremendous support for our returning wounded and now we have a chance to offer our support too.
"So far the hype from the players involved indicates this will be an exciting match. I’m looking forward to playing alongside some old rivals and against even more! I just hope most of the opposition have put on a few pounds since the last time they played.
"I hope there will be plenty of Welsh supporters at Twickenham. I’d urge every true fan of rugby to come along and support the event – and especially Scott Gibbs' team. It promises to be a great day out at Twickenham."
The Help for Heroes XV, managed by former England captain Phil de Glanville, will face an International XV managed by Ieuan Evans on Saturday 20 September at 2.30pm. The match aims to raise £1million for Help for Heroes charity and the care and rehabilitation of injured British service personnel who have served in Iraq and Afghanistan.
