Stones roll back the years for Twickers jam

The RFU has today announced that the Rolling Stones will play at Twickenham Stadium during their scheduled tour of the UK next year. The concert, which is subject to the public entertainment licence process, will be held on Saturday 23rd August 2003.

This concert will be the only outdoor show of the Rolling Stones tour and a prestigious event for Twickenham, particularly due to their close association with the area. The group built their reputation at Twickenham’s Eel Pie Island Hotel and the Station Hotel in Richmond during the early sixties.

In agreeing to host this concert, the RFU is mindful of the conditions of the permission granted in September last year for up to three concerts a year.

The RFU, in conjunction with the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames will set up a concert day committee, attended by the police, transport authorities and representatives of the local community in order to co-ordinate arrangements for the event. The concert will have a maximum audience of up to 50,000 and finish by 10.30pm. The RFU has received assurances from the promoter that the sound control conditions will be complied with and an independent monitoring team will be set up in liaison with the local authority.

Francis Baron, RFU Chief Executive said, "We are pleased that one of the most influential and popular mainstream groups of all time wish to play at Twickenham. We intend to work with the local authority to ensure that this concert is an outstanding success for the Twickenham community."

For local residents living in post codes TW1 1-4, TW2 5-7, TW3 2 and TW7 7 and wish to attend, the RFU will hold 1,000 tickets available at a discount and details will be announced through the local press and the RFU’s community magazine in January. Other tickets will go on sale on Friday 6th December from Ticketmaster on 0870 163 3407.
