England Women blast Ireland

Nicky Crawford led the England women’s rugby team to victory at Twickenham today with a 51-10 win over Ireland.

The game, which kicked off at 1pm ahead of the men’s clash with Ireland marked England’s second ever visit to Twickenham and saw England rack up their third win from three in the Six Nations Championship.

England now move another step closer to retaining the Championship. It also saw Crawford reach a personal milestone of 50 international tries.

Crawford from Worcester ended her 51st  international with a hat trick to take her total to 51 tries.

Crawford commented: “Some days you play out on the wing and the ball never comes to you, but some days it does. It was absolutely fantastic to score my 50th try. It was a great occasion, a great place to do it, and a great team to do it for.”

England Head Coach Geoff Richards was pleased to see his team achieve another win. “We were perhaps a bit anxious playing at Twickenham and we tried to make things happen too quickly, but we have strength all over the park and it was a great win.”

England Captain Maxine Edwards picked up a knee injury after 57 minutes but was full of praise for her England side, playing at Twickenham for the second time ever. “It was a great feeling to run out at Twickenham again and we look forward to this again in the future. I felt we were very confident moving forward.”

England face Wales in the next Six Nations tie at The Stoop and look to continue their unbeaten run in the 2004 Championship.
