Telford Hornets will officially switch on the new floodlights at their Town Park headquarters with a game against National League club Pertemps Bees on Wednesday November 3.
The lights have been installed with the help of a £34,000 grant from the RFU's Community Club Development Programme. The programme is an innovative collaboration between the Government, through the Department for Culture, Media and Sport, Sport England and 16 governing sports bodies aimed at improving community club sports facilities across the country.
Around £9.4 million of treasury money has been allocated to fund floodlighting, rubber crumb training pitches and regional equipment stores at rugby clubs across the country.
Terry Burwell, the RFU's Community Rugby and Operations Director, said: "We are delighted to make this award to Telford Hornets RFC. The club is key to the local and regional development of rugby union and we are committed to making sure that the club continues to provide increased opportunities for all who wish to participate in rugby."
Telford's lights will allow the club to stage representative matches and to encourage people with learning and recreational disabilities to enjoy sport in a partnership with Telford and Wrekin Borough Council.
The lights will be dedicated to Alin Phelps, the former chairman of Telford's junior section, who died suddenly two years ago. The switch-on ceremony, which will be attended by officials from the Rugby Football Union and North Midlnds RFU, will be performed by Mr Phelps' wife Judith.
Pertemps Bees, formerly Birmingham & Solihull, are currently third in National One and they reached the semi-finals of the Powergen Cup last season, beating London Wasps 28-24 in the quarter-finals.
