Essex boy Smith, a product of Colchester RGS and the Colchester club, joined Northampton Saints in 2005 and is amassing an impressive international CV. He made his England Under 18 debut in last season's Home Unions tournament, scoring two tries against Scotland, and after making his Under 19 debut against Italy this year was fast-tracked into the England Sevens squad for the tournaments in Wellington and San Diego, scoring on his debut against Papua New Guinea. Smith was also an outstanding schoolboy cricketer, averaging 84.04 with the bat for the North Essex side he captained, and after securing four As in his A level exams he is contemplating a law degree after rugby.
