France Star Bory Signs For Bath Rugby

24 May 2005
Bath Rugby are pleased to announce that France international wing David Bory is heading to the Rec next season to bolster the club’s backs division.

Bory, who is currently rounding off his season in the French Top 16 championship with Castres - Olympique, joins Bath Rugby as a highly talented and experienced player who has won eighteen caps with France during an international career that began in 2000. Although, his last cap came during the 2003 World Cup, the powerful winger has consistently set the standard in the French Championship and the Heineken Cup with a string of excellent performances for his club.

With Bath Rugby’s three-quarters having suffered a plethora of injuries last season the move to bring in the experienced Bory in the backs along with Michael Stephenson and Andy Dunne is a positive one within the continued investment and strengthening of the first team squad. Director of Rugby Jack Rowell today expressed his delight at the signing of Bory on a two-year deal and said that he hoped to see the France international add an extra edge to the club’s back play next season.

“David joins us with a solid reputation as a winger with a good strike rate,” said Bath Rugby’s Director of Rugby Jack Rowell today. “He has significant experience of the game at the highest level as a test player with France and in the Heineken Cup with both Castres-Olympique and AS Montferrand in recent seasons and is a quality addition to the Bath Rugby squad. Within the tough environment that is the Guinness Premiership and Heineken Cup it is crucial to have a strong squad in order to challenge for honours and David’s signing strengthens the club’s three-quarter resources heading into the new season.”

David says that he is excited about the move and believes that Bath Rugby will provide him with the right environment to continue the development of his game.

“I am looking forward to joining Bath Rugby,” said Bory to bathrugby.com. “I have thoroughly enjoyed playing in the French Championship, but feel that the time is right to experience a new challenge and playing in the Guinness Premiership with a club of Bath’s stature is a really exciting prospect. I am impressed with what is an extremely professional set up at Bath in terms of the facilities and coaching and am looking forward to joining what is a strong and ambitious squad competing in the Premiership and the Heineken Cup next season.”

Winger David follows back row player Peter Short, fly half Andy Dunne, hooker Pieter Dixon and full back Michael Stephenson as Bath Rugby’s fifth signing of the summer. David will join his new Bath Rugby team mates in July for pre-season training.
