Issued on behalf of Worcester Warriors
Worcester Warriors are delighted to announce that Pat Sanderson will be their team captain for the Guinness Premiership season 2005/06.
Pat joined the club in the summer of 2004 from NEC Harlequins and led Worcester throughout their inaugural season in the top flight, helping steer them to ninth place in the league. The 27 year-old flanker's superb campaign was recognised by being short-listed for the Zurich Premiership 'Player of the Season 2004/05', ultimately won by Leicester's Martin Corry, and was named England Captain for the Churchill Cup Tournament in Canada in June. Supported by Worcester teammate Andy Gomarsall, Sanderson guided England to a 45-16 defeat of Argentina in the final in Edmonton.
Commenting on his captaincy, Pat said: "I am honoured to be given the captain's role at Worcester and am looking forward to the season ahead. Pre-season training is going well and team spirit in the dressing room is high thanks to the new signings and the arrival of the new head coach, Anthony Eddy." "I am hopeful that our second season in the premiership will further show the other clubs that we really mean business, and our performances on the field will reflect our passion and dedication to the club."
