Saints fly to Italy with 27-man squad

Northampton Saints will fly to Italy with a 27-man squad ahead of Friday night's pre-season friendly against Benetton Treviso.

The squad includes seven new signings and two Academy players. It also includes three players that are currently on trial with the Academy - centre Ashley Maggs, prop Steve Taylor and back-row Mark Easter.

Friday's game kicks off at 8.30pm local time at the Stadio Comunale di Monigo. It is the first of three pre-season games for Northampton - they will play Munster at Thomond Park in Limerick on Friday, August 19, and Leinster at Donnybrook in Dublin on Friday, August 26.

It will be the first time Bruce Reihana will lead the team out as captain.

Ross Beattie, Geoff Appleford, Simon Emms, Luke Harbut and Brett McNamee will miss the trip due to injury.

The Treviso game will be followed on Saturday by the Middlesex Sevens at Twickenham. One change has had to be made to the Northampton squad with Julian Bishop coming in for Adam Barnard, who has suffered from dental problems this week.
