Adam Balding targets Comeback

5th September 2005
Issued on behalf of Gloucester Rugby
GLOUCESTER skipper Adam Balding will have surgery this week on the cheek bone he fractured against Worcester Warriors on Sunday.

The number eight is expected to be out of action for eight weeks after diagnosis from Gloucester's medical team revealed three fractures to his zygoma (cheek bone) following his sixth minute collision with Worcester's Drew Hickey during the 15-15 draw at Sixways.

But Balding is already targeting a comeback and hopes to resume running and weight training in only two weeks. "I don't want to dwell on what has happened and I have already looked ahead to running and weight training in two weeks," he told www.gloucesterrugby.co.uk

"I believe these things happen for a reason and I will stay positive and aim to come back fitter and stronger. I will have an operation on Wednesday and then look forward to starting my recovery.

"But I will stay involved, help with the analysis and look to play my part. We have said all along this is a squad game and I would like to think anyone in my position would want to do the same.

"We play in a contact sport and injuries do happen - I have just got to remain upbeat about the future. It is frustrating but there is nothing I can do now."
