Guinness Premiership round up

Sale Sharks enhanced their chances of finishing top of the Guinness Premiership after picking up all five points with their 48-33 win at Sixways against Worcester Warriors, and are now five points clear at the top of the Premiership after round 14.

They picked up just their third four try bonus point of the season with Steven Hanley getting on the score sheet on his return from injury.

Second placed London Wasps were held to a 19 all draw at home by Northampton Saints with Lawrence Dallaglio starting after taking an early flight home from Rome along with scrum half Matt Dawson who came on as a second half replacement.

Alex King secured the draw for the home side with a late drop goal to tie the scores.

Gloucester’s 34-16 win over Leicester Tigers on Friday night saw them go above them into third place in the table by two points.

London Irish missed the chance of closing the gap on the top four as they went down to a narrow home defeat at the hands of Newcastle Falcons, 9-6.

Jonny Wilkinson was named on the bench for the Falcons and remained there without being called upon.

Bath scored an excellent away win at Vicarage Road when they beat Saracens 34-29 to move up a place and out of the bottom two. They were comfortably in charge at half time leading 31-3 but in the second half Saracens scored four tries and got right back in it to claim two bonus points.

Leeds Tykes scored a huge win on Friday night at Headingley with a 26-16 victory over Bristol and are now five points behind them in the table and back within sight of safety.
