Guinness Premiership Round Up Week 19

10 April 2006
It was a bad weekend for Leeds Tykes who were beaten at Headingley on Friday night by Saracens and find themselves 10 points from safety with three games to go and need a minor miracle to escape for another season of Premiership rugby.

The win sees Saracens move into seventh spot in the table and within striking distance of a top six finish.

Sale Sharks clinched a play off spot with a narrow home win over Gloucester with a late Jason Robinson drop goal settling the match after both sides had kicked five penalties apiece.

London Irish picked up a narrow away win at Worcester to go third above Leicester Tigers who did not have a game with London Wasps involved in the Powergen Cup final. It was a low scoring match with most of the scoring coming in the first half.

Northampton Saints recovered from their home defeat in the European Challenge Cup Quarter final from the week before against Worcester with a narrow home success over Bath and are now just two points behind fifth placed Gloucester.

The defeat leaves Bath 11 points ahead of bottom club Leeds Tykes after picking up a losing bonus point.

Bristol picked up a valuable home win and all but secured their status for another season as they opened up a 14 point gap on bottom of the table Leeds Tykes.

The defeat leaves Newcastle Falcons second bottom 10 points better of than Leeds with three games remaining and they meet on the final day of the season.
