Jason Robinson v Andy Farrell This Friday

For immediate release: Tuesday 19th September 2006
Issued on behalf of Sale Sharks

Jason Robinson and Andy Farrell are preparing for Friday evenings game having never played against one another before.

Jason and Andy made their Wigan debut's in the early nineties and between them won every honour in the game of Rugby League.

Jason Robinson said, "Andy is an exceptional player and he battles for a full 80 minutes. He was captain of both Wigan and Great Britain by the time he was 22 and is a born leader. He doesn't know the word 'fail' and even when he was battling injury, I knew he would recover and I am sure he will be as big a success in Rugby Union as he was in Rugby League. In 1999 Andy was struggling with an ankle injury and had regular physio, which for him was strange! After five weeks of playing with the injury, leading from the front and kicking goals he was persuaded to have an x-ray, which showed up an ankle fracture! He went straight into rehab and was playing again within four weeks! I am looking forward to seeing him on Friday and having a chat after the game."

Andy Farrell said, "I am looking forward to playing in the North West again and I hear that there will be a contingent of Wigan RL fans at the game. Wigan Rugby League Club is very special to me and I am delighted with the way that Brian Noble has turned things around this season. I am sure that when Super League XII starts in 2007 they will again be a force to be reckoned with."

Speaking about his move to Rugby Union Andy said, "The last eighteen months have been a nightmare and 'touch wood' things are looking up again. In 12 years at Wigan I suffered a broken nose and a broken ankle and my longest spell on the sidelines was 4 weeks!"

On Jason Robinson Andy said, "What a player and what a character. He has hit the heights in both codes. I came up through the ranks at Wigan with Jason and he has always been a special talent. He can still turn a game on his own as he showed in the Play Off game against Wasps last season. He has also perfected his kicking game and is now somewhat of a drop goal expert! He once dropped a goal for Wigan in a Super League game against St Helens - we were on the fifth tackle the hooter had sounded and after dancing through a couple of tackles he saw two angry looking forwards approaching, so he leaned back and put over a drop goal. The lads gave him some stick about it and the only time I can say it was bettered was when Neil Cowie toe ended one over at Bradford Bulls! Seriously he (Jason) is a credit to both codes, he has captained England and in his two years as Captain of Sale Sharks he has won silverware."

"When Jason used to go on 'one of his runs' and Henry Paul was in support the other eleven of us had not got a clue what was going to happen next," added Andy. "But then again, they hadn't got a clue either."

Tickets for the game at Edgeley Park, this Friday, Kick Off 7-45pm are available on line at www.salesharks.com or by phoning 08712-220120 option 2.
