Sharks give Audenshaw School 'Insider' track

October 26, 2006

Sale Sharks underlined that their elevation to the elite end of European rugby has not distanced them from their roots when a sponsorship agreement with the North West Business Insider magazine was instrumental in providing a £5,000 donation to Audenshaw School to support the school’s rugby union programme.

The donation is the first project of its kind to be initiated by Insider and Sale Sharks. The aim is to develop and promote rugby at all levels and the donation will be used by Audenshaw School for the purpose of purchasing new kits, coaching and touring.

Insider Managing Director, Marlen Roberts, said: "As a partner of one of the country's leading rugby teams, we are pleased that we can not only contribute to grass roots rugby, but also to the local community. We hope this donation provides Audenshaw with the opportunity to raise their playing standards and their profile."

Niels de Vos, Sale Sharks Chief Executive said: "Sale Sharks are committed to the development and growth of young players. Local schools rugby will provide the players and supporters of tomorrow. Many of our current side are local lads who learned the game at school, including second-row forward, Dean Schofield, who attended Audenshaw School."

Headteacher at Audenshaw, Stephen Turner, said: "It’s fantastic to be given such a generous donation from Insider and Sale Sharks. An award such as this shows their commitment to developing a high-calibre of sportsmanship at such a young age. We are confident that our team will benefit hugely from this contribution as it will enable them to experience other aspects of the sport."

*North West Business Insider magazine is the leading regional monthly business publication and covers all aspects of industry, commerce and professional services.
