After last weekend’s clean sweep with all six English clubs winning in the Heineken Cup we take at look at their prospects for going through to the quarter finals.

Pool 4

Quins looking for double which would leave them in the driving seat going into the last two rounds of matches in the New Year. A win here could put the seven points clear of Stade Francais leaving them to get a win against Ulster of Llanelli to go through as group winners.

Pool 3

Leicester Tigers will need to win in Perpignan to keep ahead of the Ospreys who they still have to play away in the New Year, the Welsh side look likely winners this weekend at Benetton Treviso who they thrashed last Saturday.

Perpignan whilst looking unlikely Pool winners will have a say as they have to play both the Tigers and the Ospreys at home.  

Pool 2

London Wasps despite their win in Edinburgh still have a lot to do including beating Group leaders Leinster at home and winning away in Castres in their two matches in the New Year but before that they need to beat Edinburgh who ran them close last weekend. If Castres, could beat Leinster on Friday night, that would be a huge help to the English club.

Pool 1

Sale Sharks top their Group as they travel to France for the return fixture with Montauban knowing a win is a must and a bonus point would help.

They really need Clermont to win at Thomond Park on Saturday to open the Group up as they still have to travel to Thomond Park in the New Year. A Munster win on Saturday would need the Sharks to go away and win in Munster.  

Pool 5  

Bath lie in second place in their Pool and are three points behind leaders Toulouse. Bath will be pushed to win in Glasgow based on last Sunday’s match when they were out tried by the Scottish side five tries to four but Butch James’s kicking carried the day. Wins for the top two this weekend would leave Bath having to beat Toulouse at the Rec to look to top the Pool.

Pool 6

Gloucester are second in Pool 6 as they look to do the double over Calvisano at Kingsholm on Saturday. They need Biarritz to beat Cardiff ideally to open up the Pool for them which would probably leave them needing to win at home to Cardiff and away in Biarritz to top the Pool, A Cardiff win on Saturday would leave them in pole position.
