Club captain Jacob Rauluni makes his long awaited return to first team action this evening in a testing away game against NEC Harlequins.
The Fijian scrum-half hasn't played Premiership rugby since the boxing day defeat at Sale but says that he is now ready to resume:
'I've got a tiny little bone growing in my ankle, it's still there but it's not as bad as it used to be. I had it pre-season when I went away with Fiji and I haven't had time to rest it so it hasn't heeled properly. I haven't really had a break for three years but I feel back to normal now.'
Rauluni stepped up his comeback with an 'A' tream appearance before playing in the Global Chiefs side that faced a Falcons XV in a benefit match in memory of Soa Otuvaka, the former Newcastle player who died after a ten-month battle against a brain tumour:
'I played last week in the 'A' game against Leeds and I played in a benefit game in Newcastle last weekend. That game was a very hard match but it was good to get a run and I felt fine. It was a great turn out and there were a lot of big names there like Frank Bunce and Martin Johnson of all people. It was great to play with those guys and especially because it was a fund-raiser for Soa's family .'
As Rauluni spoke to us, he was on the team coach traveling to London for this evening's clash with 'Quins:
'The last two or three training sessions have been superb and we're concentrating on what has to be done on the field. Harlequins are a very dangerous side and their wings Harder and Monye are both very strong and quick runners, but as a team they're very strong across the board. We just have to concentrate on our own game.'
Jake revealed that although there is interest in his services from other clubs, his first choice would be to stay with Rotherham:
'There's things there but I'd love to stay, I mean I love it up here in Yorkshire and if I get the opportunity to stay i'd love to. This is my first choice and the other offers are my second and third.' |
