Dunbar signs for Tykes

Issued on behalf of Leeds Tykes

Leeds Tykes have had a timely boost ahead of their game against Northampton Saints this Sunday at Headingley, kick off 2.30pm, with the news that Newcastle Falcon's Cup winner Jon Dunbar has agreed to join the club on a two year contract from next season.

Back row Dunbar, 24, was part of the Newcastle side that won the Powergen Cup Final this month and has played for England U18, U19 and U21.

Director of Rugby Phil Davies said, "Jon is a very exciting player who, although still only 24, has vast amounts of experience after playing for three seasons in the Premiership with the Falcons.

"He was also an integral part of their Cup winning team and is a great addition to our squad for the next two campaigns.

"Jon progressed through the England ranks from Under-18s to Under-21s. He's looking to develop his game further here at Headingley alongside the likes of Tom Palmer, Stuart Hooper and Dan Hyde who have all caught the eye of the England selectors.

"He is a big, young English forward and I'm sure we can improve him into an even better player."
