Charlie Hodgson returns to action

Charlie Hodgson could be on the bench for Sale Shark's Friday night clash with London Irish after a successful return to A team rugby at Heywood Road last night.

The Sale and England stand-off played nearly 40 minutes of the game against Wakefield and didn't put a foot wrong as the Jets chalked up a 33-5 victory.

Hodgson said: "It's a brilliant feeling to be back on the pitch.

"Considering that was my first competitive game since the injury I thought things went well

"I think I can declare myself fit and then wait for Jim Mallinder's reaction.  "We'll have a chat and take it from there.

"It would be great to be involved with the first team as soon as possible, but with the results we have had recently, getting back into the side might not be so easy. I'll carry on training and working on my fitness and wait for my chance."

Head coach Jim Mallinder said: "I am very happy to see him back in action again.

"He is a world class player an! d you miss players like that. It is possible that he will be on the bench on Friday night, but we'll see how things go this week."

Hodgson has been out of action since he ruptured his cruciate ligaments during the Six Nations clash against Italy at Twickenham in March, an injury which ruled him out of the World Cup.

Charlie's passing was faultless and the Jets were soon ahead after centre Chris Mayor forced his way over for James Moore to convert.

Another long ball from Hodgson found Mayor again and he side-stepped the Wakefield defence to run in for his second of the game and Moore again added the extras.

Hodgson had had his work out and was replaced just before half time.

After the break Wakefield found room out wide for a try but that was their only reward on the night.

The Jets' superior fitness showed through and they soon extended their lead with tries from second row Paul Arnold, Daniel Fernandez-Arias and Rob Wellock with Moore adding two! conversions.

Mark Simpson Daniel had another dynamic game at scrum half, making a number of darting runs and launching some promising attacks
