Nils Mordt reports on his day from Wellington, New Zealand.....
I got up this morning about 8am. Managed to get some sleep but it was a pretty restless night as we only arrived yesterday after about 30 hours of traveling. Then we had breakfast – the food at the hotel is fantastic which is always a plus, and all the boys look forward to the meal times. We had our first training session this morning at about 10am and are training about 20 minutes away at a school ground. The session this morning was pretty tough. But after a few dropped balls in the warm up the guys all switched on and we had a good session.
Then we came back, showered and went to lunch. A few of us went for a bit of a wander round town after lunch and did a bit of shopping. I bought some flip flops but we ended up being back late for training so have had some stick from the boys for that.
Training this afternoon was pretty low key. We went through some set pieces and prepared for the tournament which begins on Friday.
The weather has been quite hot. It was humid and cloudy this morning but this afternoon the sun came out and it was hot while we were training.
We got back from training and went for a quick coffee before dinner and then relaxed this evening at the hotel.
I made my England Sevens debut in Wellington in 2004 so it feels good to be back. It’s a great tournament as rugby is so popular here in New Zealand and its very well organized. The day before the tournament all the players take part in a parade through the streets of Wellington and it is great fun as thousands of people line the streets to cheer the teams on. Last time I was here we got to the semi finals so I am hoping we go at least one better this year and if we reach the final then anything can happen so fingers crossed!
