Tuesday 9th May 2006 Issued on behalf of Premier Rugby This year's Middlesex 7s which is taking place on Saturday 12th August 2006 at Twickenham Stadium, will have a new format featuring the 12 Guinness Premiership clubs, and a host of off as well as on-pitch entertainment.
The new playing format will see the 12 Guinness Premiership clubs from the 2006/07 season drawn into 4 pools of 3 teams with every team playing at least 2 matches, followed by a quarter final, semi final and final. Tickets are now on sale.
As well as world class fast-flowing sevens rugby entertainment on the pitch, there will be a funfair and a concert featuring a line-up of bands running throughout the day in the West Car Park.
Mark McCafferty, Chief Executive of Premier Rugby, said "We've been working with the Middlesex 7s Committee to evolve the event into what we hope will provide a day of top level 7s entertainment as a curtain-raiser to the new season where fans can get behind their club as well as enjoy the entertainment laid on in the West Car Park."
James Forrester of last year's winning club Gloucester Rugby, said "We look forward to playing in the newly formatted competition this year and defending our title. The Middlesex 7s is always lots of fast-running free-flowing rugby in a party atmosphere and a great way to start off the season."
Charities benefiting from the event include the Wooden Spoon Society and the Professional Rugby Players' Association Benevolent Fund. Sky Sports will be broadcasting the event live.
