Postcard from Dubai Sevens

Postcard from Dubai (Monday 27th November)
London Wasps full back David Doherty has been called up to the England Sevens squad and is currently in Dubai ahead of Friday's Emirates Airline Dubai Sevens.  He brings rfu.com up to speed with what's happening in the desert....

We arrived in Dubai on Monday morning having left Heathrow on Sunday night.  The journey was quite long but it was ok.  I sat next to Nick (Abendanon) and we played a few games of battleships and few hands of cards on the plane.  I didn't sleep much unfortunately but a few of the boys got some kip.

We are all quite tired today but as soon as we arrived we had a spinning class to try and get some of the tiredness out of our legs.  This afternoon we had some time off and the players went to the water park.  It was good fun and they had some really good slides and rides.

Everyone is pretty tired tonight and we will all be in bed by ten this evening.  We start training tomorrow and I am really looking forward to it as it will be our first proper training session and it will be good to get used to training in the heat.

I was out in Dubai with the England Under 19s in April and it's good to be back.  I really enjoyed playing for the the Under 19 and the whole experience of the World Cup.  There is a lot of pressure on us over here to win as England have won the last two years, but there is a lot of talent in the group and hopefully we can train well and then perform well when the tournament starts on Friday.

Keep up to date on David's progress in Dubai at rfu.com/sevens
