COACH of the MONTH
Eddie Jones – Barking
Barking Director of Rugby Eddie Jones picks up the Coach of the Month award after guiding the Essex side to the National Three South Championship with three wins in the month. They started the month with a good home win over Lydney before winning the all important match away at Redruth which se them up for the title.
They finished the month with a 70-0 home victory over already relegated Haywards Heath.
On hearing of the award Jones commented ‘I accept this award again on behalf of all involved at Barking from all the coaching staff to players. I would also like to mention Dean Cutting who has been a great foil for me, especially when I go off at tangents. We bounce ideas off each other and my success is due in a big way to Dean and his experience’.
PLAYER of the MONTH
Adam Westall – Lydney
2nd: Neil Barella (Hertford). 3rd: Jacques Steyn (Barking).
The Lydney full back has had a storming month as Lydney found their form again and Westall was at the forefront with his excellent goal kicking as well as running in a number of tries.
After failing to score in the defeat at leaders Barking Westall scored 68 points in the next two matches. He scored 42 points in the away fixture at Haywards Heath which including running in four tries and kicking 11 conversions. The following week he scored 26 points with two more tries and another eight conversions in the home win against Weston super Mare.
23 years old Adam lives in Swindon, and works as an IT Consultant. He previously played for Swindon, Bath U19's U21's, Newbury and this season has played 25 games for Lydney and scored 361 points, in league and cup matches.
KICKER of the MONTH
Bede Brown – Redruth
Redruth fly half Bede Brown moved up to top spot in the kicker of the month award.
Bede would like to thank all the other guys especially Andy Hymans (who spent most of March holding the ball for Bede in the windy conditions) whilst coach Nigel Hambly says it is an excellent reward for a good season in which he has played a full part in the team success
Bede has been at Redruth for 4 seasons in all (the last 3 continuously) and has played in over a hundred games. The club are pleased that Bede has been recognised.
He finished the month with a strike rate of 73.33 just ahead of Lydney’s Adam Westall who ended on 73.08.
