Basingstoke are defiantly safe now and Sutton & Epsom are relegated as the home side climb to 7th spot in the London One table with this victory. Sutton get relegated for the first time ever in League rugby have spent their entire league career in London One.

It was still all to play for at half time with Basingstoke edging it 12-7 with tries form flanker Simon Appleby and wing Simon Buckland and a conversion from another Simon, Humberstone. Sutton replied with a try from centre Kevin Richens converted by Sam Frost.

Frost narrow the gap early in the second half with a penalty goal but by the hour mark Basingstoke were 22-10 ahead with a try form prop Philip Perkins converted by Humberstone who then slotted over a conversion. Sutton though were right back in it in the 69th minute with wing Colin Richens going in for a try and with Frost converted they were back within five points at 22-17.

The home side sealed the win on 80 minutes with a fourth try as left wing Carl Saunders touched down and Humberstone converted.   

 

Bishop’s Stortford 17 (Tries: Colenso, Penalty try. Cons: Haslam 2. Pen: Haslam.) 

Old Colfeians 20 (Tries: Chapman, Hughes. Cons: Burton 2. Pens: Burton 2.) 

Old Colfeians secured their London One status with this narrow away win at Bishop’s Stortford coming back from a 17-7 deficit.

The home side were ahead early on when No 8 Alex Colenso went in for a try and fly half Stuart Haslam converted. On 11 minutes the visitors were level with a try form fly half Ollie Chapman converted by No 8 Peter Burton. The home side were awarded a penalty try on 20 minutes which Haslam converted and five minutes later kicked a penalty goal for 17-7. Burton did pull three points back on the half hour mark to see his side go in 17-10 down.

Two minutes into the second half and prop Stephen Hughes went in for the second Old Colfeians try and Burton converted to tie the scores.

The winning kick came in the 63rd minute with Burton second penalty success of the afternoon.   

 

Canterbury 24 (Tries: Pratt, Harper, Melford. Cons: Pereira, Pratt.) 

Cambridge 66 (Tries: .Campbell 4, Whitford, Saunders, Carter, Laubscher, Kwilimbe. Cons: Dann 8.) 

Comprehensive win for Cambridge who keep turning the screw on leaders Worthing and have now cut the points difference back to just one point now with one game remaining. . 

The scene was set really when full back Mike Campbell went over for the opening try in the opening minute. It took though till the 19th minute for the next score as the home side took the lead with centre Andy Pratt going in for his 15th try of the season and Jose Pereira converted for 7-5.

That though sparked Cambridge into action and by half time they had opened up a 31-7 lead with four more tries and Campbell had completed a hat trick. 

They continued to rack up the points in the soecnd half to open up a 66-17 lead with Campbell getting a 4th try as they ran in five more tries. Canterbury stopped the flo and managed to score three tries in the final 12 minutes and deny Cambridge the leadership of London One going into the final round of matches.

Old Albanian 12 (Tries: Azzopardi, Pavitt. Con: Orchard.) 

Worthing 25 (Tries: Alcott, O’Gorman, Storer. Cons: Coulsen 2. Pens: Coulsen 2.) 

Worthing ended the day just top of the table by the narrowest of margins, a one point advantage in the points difference column.   

They were 10-0 ahead in the opening nine minutes after Ben Coulson kicked an early penalty goal and then converted a try from hooker Simon Alcott. The home side though gave them a scare and after 25 minutes were ahead 12-10 with tries from full back Justin Azzopardi and second row Pavitt and a conversion form Ed Orchard.

It was not till deep into the second half that Worthing regained the lead with a Coulson penalty goal on 70 minutes which was followed three minutes later by a push over try credited to Ryan Storer and Coulson converted. The win was wrapped up when No 8 O’Gorman went over for his 21st try of the season.

 

Richmond 15 (Tries: Ajuma, Piggott, Gregory.) 

London Scottish 3 (Pen: Fraser.) 

This derby match went the way of the ‘home’ side as Richmond ran out winners outscoring London Scottish three tries to nil.

It took till the 36th minute for the opening score with right wing Joseph Ajuma touching down for an unconverted try, three minutes later they doubled their lead with a second try as opposite wing Neil Piggott went n for a try and they led 10-0 at the break.

Three minutes into the second half and Michael Fraser got the visitors on the scoreboard with a penalty goal.

Richmond got a third try just after the hour mark with prop Owen Gregory scoring what was the final score of the match as Richmond moved above the Scottish in the table into third place.
