Terrace Talk - National One

Check out our previews and predictions ahead of the weekends matches.

Bedford Blues v Penzance & Newlyn

Repeat of last weeks Powergen Cup match, which the Pirates won with a late rally after Bedford thought they were on the way to victory.

With Bedford at home and the Pirates having a dreadful away record the match favours the Blues. They have lost all three of their road trips whilst Bedford have won two out of three at home with the one loss being against Worcester and last time out at Goldington Road they were impressive winners against Exeter.

This will the first ever league meeting between the two sides.

Team news:

Prediction: Home win by 10 points

London Welsh v Bristol

Interesting match this one with Bristol having found some form recently and the Welsh going through a bad spell.

The Welsh have yet to win at Old Deer Park this season losing both their league matches and are going through a bad spell with four successive losses.

Bristol have won their last two with a league win at home to Bedford and then last Sunday an excellent win over high flying Orrell.

They met in the league for the only time in the 1998/99 season with Bristol dominating the fixture with two comfortable wins including a 25-6 win at Old Deer Park.

Team news:

Prediction: Home win by less than five.

Manchester v Exeter

Not the best fixture for Manchester as they go in search of that elusive first win of the season. Exeter made a rocky start to the new season but picked up a 29-13 win over London Welsh at the County Ground to move up the table.

Manchester have a dreadful record in this fixture and have picked up just one win in eight league meetings. In the last three games between the two sides the Chiefs have topped the 40 point mark on each occasion.

The only Manchester win came at Grove Park in the 2000/01 season with the home side winning 21-3. Since then Exeter have won all five matches.

Team news:

Prediction: Away win by 15 points.

Orrell v Pertemps Bees

Biggest test yet for the Bees as they travel to Edge Hall lane and put their 100% start to the season to the toughest test yet.

They will need to defend better than they did last Saturday against Waterloo who they let back in the game after leading 21-0 to trail 27-21 with 20 minutes left before pulling away in the final 20 minutes thanks to a Hubbleday double.

Orrell suffered a shock Powergen Cup exit at Bristol where they fell foul of the boot of Danny Gray who took advantage of a high penalty count in the second half to take the Shoguns to victory.

In the league though the Lancashire club have a four match winning run behind them and will see this as a must win match with home advantage.

Last season the clubs won one match each but it was the away game and the Bees left Edge Hall Road with a 27-18 win. The previous season Orrell won this fixture 20-13.

Otley v Coventry

This season has seen Otley make a really positive start to the season and although losers last time out they had won their four previous league matches and were well up the table.

Coventry on the other hand have had a dreadful start to the season and picked up just one win from six league games and are on a three match losing streak.

On the road Coventry have lost both leagues games so far whilst Otley have won two out of three at home with only Worcester leaving with the points and that was a very close match with Worcester sneaking it late on.

Otley will be looking for a repeat of the result last January when they defeat Coventry at Cross Green 32-25 to record their first ever league win over them in six league meetings.

Team news:

Prediction: Home win by 10 points.

Wakefield v Plymouth

Plymouth have done well on the road this season with two wins from matches whilst Wakefield have won both their home matches to date at College Grove.

Plymouth have won their last two matches and recovered from a three match losing run to climb the table and they have now seventh place with three wins and three losses. Wakefield are in the lofty position of fifth place with four wins and the defeat at Worcester in the league two weeks ago ended a four match winning run.

They will also be buoyed at knocking Worcester out of the Powergen Cup last Saturday so should not lack confidence.

When these two sides met last season it was home advantage that count on both occasions and this fixture ended 22-16.

Team news:

Prediction: Home win by less than seven.
