Terrace Talk - National Three South

Check out our previews and predictions ahead of this weekends games.

Barking v Old Colfeians

Top of the table Barking entertain 11th placed Old Colfeians this Saturday looking to make it three in a row and keep ahead of the pack with four sides separated by just two points and a three point gap then till the fifth placed side.

Barking are unbeaten at home averaging over 40 points a game and 23 of their 36 tries this season have come at Gorsebrook.

Old Colfeians were heavily beaten at home last Saturday a week after getting their first away win of the season at Dings Crusaders the week before.

Team news

Prediction: Comfortable home win by 20 points.

Basingstoke v Haywards Heath

Last weekend Basingstoke were well beaten away at high scoring Blackheath whilst Haywards Heath were busy creating a shock result at home to Westcombe Park who they beat comfortable in the end. The win over Park was just their second of the season and against a side that had just come of a home win against their deadliest of rivals Blackheath. HH were deserved winners and will hope to gain confidence from that result and make it back to back successes even though they are away from home and have lost all three road this season in the National Leagues.

So far at home this season Basingstoke have won two out of three matches but enter the match on the back of a three match losing run with Weston winning at Down Grange two weeks ago by three points.

Team news

Prediction: HH to build on last weeks excellent win against Westcombe Park.

Dings Crusaders v Weston super Mare

Dings moved of the bottom of the table last week after their excellent away win at Tabard, which was their first league success of the season as they ended a four match losing run.

Weston were beaten last Saturday when they gave Launceston a run for their money at home before going down by seven points. That ended a three match winning run and they are now in 8th place with a 4/4 record.

This match brings together two of the worst attacking sides in the division in terms of tries scored with Dings bottom with just 15 and Weston third bottom with 19 and Dings have managed just three at home all season. Dings have a reasonable defensive record with five sides having conceded more points than they have.

Team news

Prediction: Tough call but Weston to grind out win by less than five.

Launceston v Blackheath

The big match of the day with third placed Blackheath travelling to fourth placed Launceston, both sides are on 12 points but Launceston have a game in hand on the three sides above them.

Launceston are unbeaten at home in the league and take a four match winning run into the game with them. Blackheath returned to winning ways last Saturday with a big home win against Basingstoke having lost the week before at local rivals Westcombe Park. They could certainly do without a third defeat at this stage of the season with the two ides above then having lost just the once so far this season.

Team news

Prediction: Home advantage Launceston by less than 10 points.

Redruth v Old Patesians

6th placed Redruth entertain bottom of the table Old Patesians this Saturday as they look to return to winning ways having lost at North Walsham last Saturday.

At home Redruth have a good record this season with only Weston leaving with the points, it is away from home that Redruth have struggled this season with three defeats form their four matches.

Old Patesians go into the game after back to back home defeats against North Walsham and Barking and in both matches Old Pats played really well in patches but need to put together an 80 minute performance to try and turn things round, although their only win this season has come on the road.

Don’t expect too much action in the first half with both sides scored nearly all their tries in the second half; Old Pats have scored just four out of 20 in the opening 40 minutes whilst Redruth have managed seven out of 26.

Team news

Prediction: Home win by 14 points.

Southend v Tabard

Seventh placed Southend entertain sixth placed Tabard and the home side will be in confident mood with two wins in their last three matches with a second away success of the season last week at Old Colfeians. They topped the 50 point mark running in seven tries and the boot of the reliable Ali Chambers adding 15 points.

Tabard were losers at home last week going down to Dings Crusaders who were recording their first win of the season.

Tabard will want to get that result out of their system as quickly as possible and end a run of three defeats in four matches.

Attacking wise Tabard will need to be on their guard against the side with the second best try scoring record in the division, they have scored 35 tries and only Barking with 36 have scored more plus they have the boot of Chambers.

Tabard have run in 26 tries with 10 of those coming away from home. Tabard have kicked the fewest penalties in the division with just seven in eight matches.

Team news

Prediction: Another home win for Southend by 10 points.

Westcombe Park v North Walsham

Interesting match this one after Park’s loss at Haywards Heath, Park have now lost two of their last three but they were both away from home and their last match at home was the defeat of Blackheath. At home they have done well this season with three wins from four matches after losing to Launceston on the opening day of the season.

North Walsham are going for a fifth consecutive league win and have won two out of three on the road this season with their only defeat coming at Blackheath.

North Walsham lead in the try scoring with 29 to 23 whilst defensively there is nothing to choose with both sides conceding 17 tries.

Team news

Prediction: After last weekend will go with North Walsham to take the points.
