Terrace Talk - National Three North

Check out our weekly preview and predictions ahead of this weekends fixtures.

Darlington v New Brighton

Darlington’s excellent home record will be put to the test this week as they entertain New Brighton at Blackwell Meadows. They have played well at home and have a 75% success rate with six wins and two defeats from their eight matches and only Waterloo and Dudley Kingswinford have left with the points this season.

New Brighton have not done as well as they have like on the road this season with just two wins and a draw from their seven matches.

In the Form Guide Darlington are up in fourth spot whilst New Brighton are down in 10th place with just two wins in their last six matches.

When the sides met at New Brighton earlier in the season when the home side won a high scoring match 46-33.

Dudley Kingswinford v Blaydon

Three wins and a draw in their last six matches has seen DK move up to 11th place in the table as they look to avoid that third relegation place.

Blaydon are sitting in fourth spot and have won their last three matches going into this game, three points behind third placed Darlington Mowden Park.

At home DK have done reasonable well with four wins form their seven matches. On the road Blaydon have picked up three wins and a draw from their eight matches away from Crow Trees.

When the sides met at Crow Trees earlier in the season Blaydon thrashed DK 53-7 as they going looking for a double and a fourth consecutive win.

Team news:

Prediction: Away win 10 points.

Halifax v Fylde

Halifax are going for a ninth consecutive home win and with Fylde’s poor away form it should be a comfortable win. Fylde were looking to have found some form a few weeks ago with three straight wins but have come unstuck in their last two matches and find themselves in ninth place.

When the sides met at Woodlands earlier in the season it was Halifax who left with the points after a 33-20 win.

Halifax will be up for this match especially with Waterloo having what could be a tough match against the In Form Darlington Mowden Park.

Team news:

Prediction: Home win by 15 points.

Longton v Liverpool St Helens

With Liverpool having won just one of their last six league matches Longton will see this as a chance to grab a second win after some promising performances of late. LSH have slipped down the league table and are now in a relegation spot and need to stop the rot and they will see this as the perfect match to do so. LSH were again at it last week threatening to beat one of the bog boys as they pushed Halifax all the way in a high scoring match before going down to defeat.

Longton thought they should have got something out of the match at New Brighton last Saturday going down to a narrow loss, but hey what’s new.

It was a closely fought match when the sides met at Moss Lane earlier in the season with the home side edging it 20-16.

Team news:

Prediction: Home win less than seven points.

Macclesfield v Tynedale

8th placed Macclesfield are going for a double as they entertain 6th placed Tynedale. Last week Macclesfield were losers on the road at Blaydon whilst Tynedale were 24-0 winners at home to struggling Preston.

At home this season Macclesfield have won four and drawn one of their seven matches whilst the visitors have a 50% record on the road with four wins and four defeats.

Macclesfield need to stop their recent run of bad results, which has seen them lose four and draw one of their last five league matches. Tynedale on the other hand have picked up three wins in their last five matches and go into the match as the Form Side.

At Tynedale Park Macclesfield were 35-21 winners earlier in the season and with home advantage should do the double over the North East side if they can find their form again.

Team news:

Prediction: Go with home win less than seven points.

Preston Grasshoppers v Kendal

Hoppers are getting down to must win games and this is one of them as they entertain 7th placed Kendal.

They are now three wins off safety with 11 matches left and will need to win at least seven of those to avoid the drop to North One.

Kendal got back to winning ways last weekend with a home win over Darlington, which stopped a three match losing run.

When the sides met at Mint Bridge earlier in the season Kendal were 34-31 winners in a closely fought match.

Team news:

Prediction: Home win by less than five points.

Waterloo v Darlington Mowden Park

Waterloo will start strong favourites to maintain their 100% record and make it 14 out of 14 but this is potentially a banana skin if they are not at their best. Darlington Mowden Park are the form side in the division of late and climbed up into third place three points clear of the chasing sides.

They have though done most of the damage at home with seven of their 11 wins this season coming there.

Waterloo are unbeaten and will see this as one their hardest fixtures they have left along with the visit to Halifax.

When the sides met in Darlington earlier in the season Waterloo were 19-14 winners in a tight match with the boot of Anthony Handley proving vital.

Team news:

Prediction:  Home win by 12 points.
