Terrace Talk - National One

Check out our weekly previews and predictions ahead of this weekends matches.

Bedford Blues v Plymouth Albion

5th placed Bedford Blues play host to 4th placed Plymouth Albion looking to do the double over the Devon side who they beat at Brickfields 24-15.

Albion are going for a fourth straight win in the league and have third best record on the road in the division with seven wins from eight matches with the one defeat coming away at Orrell.

Bedford have done well at Goldington Road this season with six wins from eight matches with only London Welsh and Worcester leaving with the points.

Plymouth will be in great heart after last weeks excellent home win over second placed Orrell whilst Bedford come into the match on the back of last weeks loss away at leaders Worcester.

Team news:

Prediction:  Albion to keep good recent run going with 10 point victory.

Coventry v Penzance & Newlyn

This is a huge game for both sides as they look to avoid finishing in one of the bottom two places in the division. A win for Penzance & Newlyn would be enough to see them move above Coventry in the table, and out of the relegation zone which would be a huge pyscological boost for the Pirates. A home win would put a two win gap between the two sides and leave the Pirates in a perilous position.

The Pirates have a terrible away record and start the season losing seven in a row but on their last road trip they won for the first time this season with a victory over fellow strugglers Henley Hawks.

Coventry have a 50/50 record at Coundon Road this season with four wins and four defeats.

When the sides met earlier in the season the Pirates were 28-16 winners at home.

Team news:

Prediction: Coventry with home advantage to get win by less than seven points.

Henley Hawks v Pertemps Bees

A tough game for 10th placed Henley Hawks as they entertain third placed Pertemps Bees at Dry Leas.

The Bees are on a good run and go into the match going for a sixth straight league win and keep the pressure on second placed Orrell who they trail by just a point now.

Henley picked up a valuable win last week with an away success at Manchester but were less than convincing.

Henley have managed just two league wins at home this season which is the same number as they have won away from Dry Leas.

The Bees on the road have done really well and picked up six wins in eight matches with only Orrell and London Welsh stopping them from winning.

Team news:

Prediction: Away win by 14 points.

London Welsh v Worcester

Top of the table Worcester have the bit between their teeth now and will be looking to plough on and take the title and realise the ambition to play in the Premiership after a number of near misses.

They go to Old Deer Park looking for a 17th straight win having won their meeting earlier in the season at Sixways 34-0.

The Welsh have a poor record at home this season and have won four and lost four and will be up against it on Saturday in what will be a damage limitation exercise.

Team news:

Prediction:  Worcester not to let up with 15 point win.

Manchester v Wakefield

Big match for Wakefield who have slipped down the league table of late and are now down in 12th place after last Saturdays home loss against London Welsh.

On the road this season they have managed to pick up two wins in eight matches and will see this as a must win game as they look to reverse their dreadful recent run.

Manchester picked up a couple of bonus points last Saturday in a narrow five point home loss to Henley Hawks.

When the sides met earlier in the season at College Grove the home side were 33-8 winners and will be looking to do the double over Manchester, which could see them move up three places in the league table.

Team news:

Prediction: Tough call both sides going through bad spells will go with home win by less than seven points.

Orrell v Exeter

Orrell will be up for this match as they look to end a two match losing run which has all but left them out of the race for the championship. It was bad enough losing to Worcester at home two weeks ago but a loss at Plymouth last Saturday left them needing Worcester to slip up twice in their run in to give Orrell a realistic chance of catching them.

Exeter are slowly finding some form and have picked up four wins in their last five matches and are up into seventh place four points behind the two sides ahead of them in the league table.

Exeter do not have a great away record this season and have managed just three wins in five matches away form the County Ground.

Orrell at home have an impressive home record with only Worcester stopping then from a 100% record at Edge Hall Road this season.

When the sides met at Exeter earlier in the season the visitors were 40-26 winners.

Team news:

Prediction:  Orrell to bounce back this week with three score win.

Otley v Bristol

Otley have come off the rails a little lately and have slipped to fifth place and suffered three successive defeats in the league.

Bristol are slowly finding their feet in the division and have put together a run of four wins in their last six matches and are sitting comfortably in 9th place level on points with London Welsh who are a place above them.

Otley have picked up four wins at home form seven matches but Bristol have managed just two wins on the road from eight matches.

When the side met at the Memorial Ground earlier in the season the Yorkshire side were convincing 35-11 winners, it will be a lot closer this time though and if they play well they could leave with the points.

Team news:

Prediction: Narrow home win for Otley less than 10 points.
