Terrace Talk - National Two

Check out our weekly previews and predictions ahead of this weekends matches,

Esher v Stourbridge

Esher go into the game third in the Form Guide with five wins in their last six matches and are up in to 11th place now after their win last week at Rugby Lions and with a win here and results going their way they could find themselves 9th on Saturday night.

Stourbridge are in eighth place in the National Two league table four points clear of the chasing pack and will be keen to get last weeks heavy home defeat against an in form Nottingham side out of their system.

Esher have not done well at home and managed just three wins in nine matches, the same number as they have won on the road.

Stourbridge have picked up three wins on the road this season from eight matches and will need to be at their best to get anything out of this game.

When the sides met at Stourbridge earlier in the season the home side were 34-28 winners when Esher were going through a really bad spell.

Team news:

Prediction: Esher to continue good recent run with home success by 10 points.

Lydney v Harrogate

You would have to go with Harrogate but if they are not in the mood they could well come unstuck at Regentsholme with Lydney desperate to try and get some wins before the end of the season to give their fans something to cheer.

Harrogate drew at home last weekend and have now failed to win in six matches with five defeats and a draw in that time.

Away from home the Yorkshire side have the third best record in the division with five wins in nine road trips so far this season.

Lydney have managed just the one win all season when they beat Nuneaton at home in November, a result which kicked started Nuneaton’s season.

When the side met a Claro Road earlier in the season the Yorkshire side thrashed Lydney 60-13 but would settle for a one point win after their recent form.

Team news:

Lydney make two changes with Charlie Vine replacing the injured Rob Sargent (dislocated finger) on the wing while Dave Arnott returns to the side at scrum half while Julian Davis serves a one-week suspension.

Lydney: A Westall; C Vine, T Edwards, L Johnson, D Jones; J Hill, D Arnott; P Price (capt), N Nelmes, N Bartlett, J Roberts, P Kiely, R Turoa, D Jenkins, B Scrivens. Reps: A McRae, D Croudace, G Groves, D Raynor.

Prediction: Harrogate to return to winning ways by more than seven points. .

Moseley v Wharfedale

After the results from last weekend not sure where to start with this one. Moseley pulled of the result of the season with their comprehensive away win at leaders Sedgley Park. Prior to that match they had lost four in a row and picked up just one away win all season. Park were six points clear at the top of the table and lost just twice all season.

Wharfedale were beaten at Bracknell last Saturday in a low scoring match and have lost two of their last three but did beat Sedgley Park in between those losses.

When the sides met at Threshfields earlier in the season Moseley went away with the points in a low scoring match 9-3.

It was a good job Moseley did win at Sedgley Park otherwise they would have dropped into the relegation zone.

Team news:

Prediction: After last week tough to call but will go with home win less than five points.

Newbury v Rugby Lions

Huge game for both sides with the threat of relegation hanging over both of them. Rugby Lions were beaten at home last week by Esher and are now just a point ahead of Esher and two ahead of Newbury who were beaten at Doncaster after having a healthy half time lead.

In the Form Guide Newbury are sixth with three wins and three defeats in their last six matches whilst Rugby are down in 12th place with two wins and four defeats in their last six matches.

Newbury at Monks Road this season have a 50/50 record with four wins and four defeats whilst Rugby on the road have managed just two wins in nine matches.

When the sides met at Webb Ellis Road earlier in the season the Lions won a high scoring game 43-36.

Team news:

Prediction: Huge game and will go for Newbury win less than seven points.

Nottingham v Sedgley Park

Major game at the top of the National Two league table this week as Nottingham entertain leaders Sedgley Park trailing them by four points. A win for Park would open up a six point gap again and give them some breathing space but a Nottingham win would change all that and put some pressure on them and give the sides chasing some hope.

At home this season Nottingham have been impressive with seven wins and a draw from their nine matches and only Nuneaton have left with both points.

Park on the road have the best record in the division with seven wins out of eight with only Wharfedale stopping them leaving with the points.

When the sides met at Sedgley Park earlier in the season the home side were 30-20 winners a in a closely fought match.

.

Team news:

Prediction:  On current form Nottingham by 10 points.

Nuneaton v Bracknell

Nuneaton are the form side I the division and last weekends win over Lydney saw them move ominously into third pace in the table overtaking Wharfedale in the process.

Bracknell were busy beating Wharfedale at home last Saturday to record back t back wins to climb into seventh place in the table above Stourbridge

Nuneaton won at Bracknell earlier in the season in a tight match 17-16, one of only three home defeats this season.

Nuneaton at home have won six out of eight matches and with Nottingham playing Sedgley Park a win would benefit them as they make a push for promotion and these are the sort of home games they need to make sure they win if they are to be serious challengers.

Team news:

Prediction:  Got to go Nuneaton by 14 points.

Rosslyn Park v Doncaster

Rosslyn Park’s recent recovery will be put to the test when they entertain Doncaster who are going for a third consecutive win as they look to get back into the promotion race.

Park need to win their home matches as they look to escape the relegation zone and avoid going back down into National Three South after getting out of their last season.

Doncaster are second in the away table this season with five wins form nine matches a record they share with both Harrogate and Nuneaton.

Park at home this season have a 50/50 record with four wins and four defeats and will need to improve that ratio before the end of the season if they want to escape the drop.

When the sides met at Armthorpe earlier in the season Doncaster only just managed to hold off Esher to triumph 23-22.

Team news:

Prediction:  Narrow Park win by less than seven points.
