What is going on!! Great win for Basingstoke as they leave Launceston automatic promotion hopes in the balance with Blackheath going top after running in 50 points at Barking.
Basingstoke did the damage in the first half when they built up a 26-0 half time lead.
The home side went ahead in the fifth minute when full back Matt Lucas going over for a try and the boot of Ian Calder doing the rest.
On nine minutes Ian Calder got the second try for the home side and slotted over the conversion for a 14-0 lead. The story just got better and better with Lucas completing a double on 21 minutes and they were 21-0 ahead. The fourth home try came on 25 minutes when scrum half Thomas Vincent went over for a try but this time Calder missed but they went in 26-0 ahead.
In the second half the visitors got on the scoreboard on 53 minutes with winger Ashley Rescorla going over but that was it till the 79th minute when second row Julian Wilce got a second try for Launceston but by then the it was too late and the home side took the points.
Haywards Heath 22 (Tries: Goodburn 2, Mackie. Cons: Charnley 2. Pen: Charnley.)
Weston 12 (Tries: Sparkes, Richardson. Con: Reid.)
Haywards Heath move above Tabard in the league table with this home success over Weston super Mare and are just two points behind the Seasiders.
It was Weston who went ahead with flanker George Sparkes going over the home line on 27 minutes for an unconverted try and that’s how it stayed till half time.
In the second half the home side were first on the scoreboard when Stuart Charnley slotted over a penalty goal on 49 minutes. A minute later they were ahead with winger Henry Goodburn going over for a try and an 8-5 lead. Six minutes later and Goodburn completed a double and this time Charnley converted for 15-5. Centre James Mackie got the third home try and again Charnley converted for a 22-5 lead.
The visitors did get the final score with replacement back Jonathan Richardson crossing the home line and James Reid converted.

Blackheath 50 (Tries: Trace 2, Brain 2, Maurer, N Taylor, Monighan. Cons: Coates 6. Pen: Coates.)
Blackheath go back to the top of the table after this excellent away win and Launceston’s surprise loss at Basingstoke.
At half time it was just 8-0 to the visitors with scrum half Nick Maurer scoring a try on five minutes and Coates slotting over a 31st minute penalty goal.
In the second half it was a different story with the visitors running in six tries for a convincing win and more importantly improving their points difference.
Both wingers, Chris Trace and Chris Brain, completed second half doubles and the boot of Derek Coates converted all six of the tries as he passed the 300 point mark for the season.
North Walsham 39 (Tries: Borrett 2, Thorpe, Benade, Van Poortvliet. Cons: Wyatt3, Holmes. Pens: Wyatt 2.)
Tabard 10 (Tries: Drew, Higgins.)
North Walsham consolidate third place in the league table with this win over Tabard who have dropped another place in the table and could mathematically go down in they were not to win another match all season.
The home side went ahead early on with Jonny Wyatt slotting over a penalty goal. Chris Borrett, playing in the centre instead of his usual full back slot, went over for the games first try on six minutes and Wyatt added the extras for an early 10-0 lead.
Winger Andy Thorpe was again on the scoreboard with a try on 20 minutes and Wyatt missed the conversion this time but did put over a penalty goal a few minutes later.
Left wing Philip Benade went over just before half time and the home side went in 25-5 ahead. Tabard had managed a try on 24 minutes through full back James Drew.
In the second half the home side went further ahead with flanker Jeff Van Poortvliet crossing the Tabard line for his 10th try of the season. Both sides scored tries late on but the win went to North Walsham who stay two points clear of the in form Redruth.
Redruth 30 (Tries: Vinnicombe, Corin, Griffiths, Thirlby. Cons: Martin, Thirlby. Pens: Martin 2.)
Southend 12 (Tries: Wagstaff, Smith. Con: C Green.)
Redruth continued their good recent form with another win as they beat Southend at home thanks to two late tries.
The home side were ahead on seven minutes with winger Lewis Vinnicombe scoring his 10th try of the season and Scott Martin converted.
Flanker Neil Corin got the second try on 20 minutes, Martin missed the conversion but did slot over a 33rd minute penalty for a 15-0 lead at the break.
Martin extended the lead in the second half with another penalty goal before Southend finally got on the scoreboard.
James Wagstaff, playing on the wing this week, normally in the back five, got a 65th minute try. Seven minutes later the visitors were within a score with centre Mark Smith crossing the Redruth line and Chris Green converted for 18-12.
Redruth got two late tries from replacement forward Simon Griffiths and centre Paul Thirlby.
Westcombe Park 76 (Tries: Croall 3, Daniels 3, De Kock 3, Jervis 2. Cons: Garfoot 9. Pen: Garfoot.)
Dings Crusaders 10 (Tries: Jeffries, Edwards.)
Park run in 11 tries as they thrash struggling Dings Crusaders at Goddington Dene.
They went ahead on seven minutes when Mark Garfoot kicking a penalty goal. The first try came on 10 minutes when left wing Nick Daniels crossed the Dings line.
They scored tries at a steady rate from thereon in and by half time had build up a 29-5 lead.
Prop Stephen Croall scored a hat trick as did winger Daniels and full back Gert De Kock who went to the top of the divisions try scorers list with 15 for the season. |
