Darlington Mowden Park 14 (Try: Tyrell. Pens: Richardson.)
Blaydon own this North East derby match to close to within a point of third placed Mowden Park.
DMP were first on the scoreboard when David Richardson slotted over a 3rd minute penalty goal. Two minutes later and Blaydon were ahead with No 8 Matthew Cook scoring the games opening try and Tim Clappison converted for 7-3.
Richardson slotted over another penalty goal on 19 minutes but before the break the home side scored a second try through player Coach/full back Nick Gandy and they went in 12-6 ahead.
Five minutes into the second half and it was 12-9 with Richardson kicking a third penalty goal. Two tries in six minutes either side of the hour mark though saw the home side pull well clear as first they were awarded a penalty try and the flanker Peti Keni went over and with Clappison converting both they were 26-9 ahead.
The visitors did manage a consolation try late on when replacement wing James Tyrrell went over for an unconverted try.
Dudley Kingswinford 17 (Tries: Connett, Gowland 2. Con: Swingwood.)
Halifax 25 (Tries: Penalty try, Canning, Bloem. Cons: Sanft 2. Pens: Sanft 2.)
Halifax were winners again as they continue to keep the pressure on Waterloo who they meet next time out.
Halifax went ahead in the 11th minute when Douglas Sanft kicked a penalty goal. DK though were ahead on 18 minutes when No 8 Ben Connett went over for a try and a 5-3 lead. Which is how it stayed till half time.
Two minutes into the second half and DK went further ahead with winger Ian Gowland crossing the Halifax line for a 10-3 lead.
The game then changed in a 12-minute spell where the visitors scored 22 unanswered points. They scored three tries starting when the referee awarded a penalty try and then winger Aaron Canning and centre Jamie Bloem crossed the home line and Sanft converted two of them and added a penalty goal for a 25-10 lead.
Late in the match Gowland completed a double to go to 15 for the season.
Kendal 23 (Tries: M Bowman, Hudson, Park. Con: Park. Pens: Park 2.)
Liverpool St Helens 22 (Tries: O’Shea, Evans, Handley, Gaskell. Con: Worsley.)
Liverpool St Helens are all but down after this match when although they scored four tries like Kendal they were beaten.
The home side went ahead on five minutes when flanker Mark Bowman went over for an unconverted try. Four minutes later and LSH were ahead when centre Tim O’Shea goes in and Simon Worsley converted.
Kendal though came back with second row Andrew Hudson going over and although Chris Park missed the conversion he did add a penalty a few minutes later for a 13-7 lead. Park then scores a try on 37 minute, which this time he converts for a 20-7 lead.
LSH were back in the game on 40 minutes when No 8 Peter Evans went over for an unconverted try.
In the second half LSH were the better early on and found themselves 22-20 in the lead after 56 minutes as second row Mark Handley and flanker Martin Gaskell crossed the home line but neither were converted by Worsley.
Park won the game in the 71st minute with a penalty goal and unless LSH win both their games and Dudley lose both theirs they are relegated to North One for the first time ever in League rugby. .
Macclesfield 22 (Tries: Davidson, Campbell, Coulbeck. Cons: Bell 2. Pen: Bell.)
Longton 17 (Tries: Sheldon, Howson, Brookes. Con: T Wheat.)
Macclesfield pick up their ninth win of the season with this success over bottom of the table Longton.
Macc were ahead in the 3rd minute with centre Steven Davidson going over for a try, which went, unconverted. Gary Bell did though kick a penalty in the eighth minute for an 8-0 lead. Two tries in two minutes turned the match with right wing over on 22 minutes and then left wing Ben Coulbeck going in two minutes later, both were converted by Bell and they were 22-0 up and a big win looked on the cards.
Longton though are fighters and that was the end of the home sides scoring in the match.
Before half time winger Cark Howson went over to get them on the scoreboard.
In the second period it took till the 64th minute for the score to change with the visitors getting a seconds try through flanker Paul Sheldon that was converted by Tony Wheat. Longton also got the next score when in the 78th minute prop John Brooks went over and they were within five of the home side but not enough time and they went down to their 19th defeat of the season.
Preston Grasshoppers 19 (Tries: Viney 2, Gough. Cons: Gough.)
New Brighton 34 (Tries: Pennington 2, Brett. Cons: Birley 2. Pens: Birley 4.)
Preston went down to another defeat but at one time they looked likely to be on the end of another big defeat but managed to turn it round in the second half.
Right wing Matthew Pennington gave the visitors the lead in the opening minute with a try, which went unconverted. Anthony Birley did though add a penalty six minutes later before centre Paul Brett got the second New Brighton try and this time Birley converted for 15-0.
In the 22nd minute Pennington completed a double and Birley converted and with two more penalty goals the visitors were 28-0 up at the break.
At the break Hoppers made four changes and just two minutes into the second half and one of them went over for a try to get them off the mark. It was Oliver Viney and Steve Gough added the extras.
The visitors though were next to score with Birley slotting over a couple of penalties but Preston finished the better. They got two more tries with Viney completing a double and Gough also crossing the try line but it was all too late and Preston are now officially relegated.
Tynedale 10 (Try: White. Con: Belgian. Pen: Belgian.)
Fylde 23 (Tries: Evans, Kenyon. Cons: Scott. Pens: Scott 2. DG: Scott.)
Fylde move above Tynedale after this win and are now in sixth place in the table.
Mike Scott gave the visitors a 5th minute lead with a drop goal. Phil Belgian levelled things up on 13 minutes with a penalty goal. And that was the score at half time.
Early in the second half winger Mark Evans went over for the games first try and Scott converted for a 10-3 lead which was soon 13-3 when Scott kicked a penalty goal.
Just after the hour mark and Tynedale were right back in it when centre Rob White went over and Belgian converted.
The match was decided in the 79th minute when Richard Kenyon scored a break away try which Scott converted and then added a penalty a minute later to round off the win.
Waterloo 26 (Tries: Kotze, Tyms, Broxson. Con: Handley. Pens: Handley 3.)
Darlington 15 (Tries: S Haswell, D Haswell. Con: Butler. Pen: D Haswell.)
Waterloo did not have it all their own way in this match against Darlington but they had enough and made it 22 out of 22.
When Divan Kotze gave the home side the lead in the 8th minute with a try it seemed Waterloo were on their way to another big win but Darlington had other ideas. By the 20th minute the visitors were 12-5 ahead after tries from full back from Stephen Haswell and flanker Andrew Carphin and Mark Butler adding a conversion.
By half time Waterloo were back to within a point after Tony Handley slotted over a couple of penalty goals.
They took the lead four minutes into the second half with a try from hooker Chris Tyms that Handley converted for an 18-12 lead.
Just after the hour mark Handley extended the lead with a penalty goal.
Darlington were back within a score on 70 minutes when David Haswell kicked a penalty.
Late in the game scrum half John Broxson to seal the win but not before a few nervous moments. |
