Coventry gave Champions Worcester a run for their money for 40 minutes before they fell away in the second half to a heavy home defeat. At half time they were ahead 18-17 thanks to four Gareth Cull penalties and drop goals from Simon Martin and Mark Meenan. Worcester did run in three tries with full back Daren O’Leary, winger Chris Garrard and No 8 Drew Hickey crossing the home line and Tommy Hayes adding a conversion.
In the second half Worcester ran in six tries whilst the home side failed to add to their total. O’Leary led the way completing a hat trick to join flanker Gavin Pfister as joint leading try scorer with 18, but still three behind Lee Robinson the Divisions’ leading scorer.
London Welsh 25 (Tries: Lewsey, Howells, Bidwell. Cons: Pugh 2. Pen: Pugh, Howells.)
Bedford Blues 30 (Tries: Malone, Staten, Kirk. Cons: A Hepher 3. Pens: A Hepher 3.)
Excellent away win for Bedford Blues at Old Deer Park as they defeat London Welsh by five points.
The Welsh went ahead with a penalty from the reliable boot of Dylan Pugh but this was cancelled out by Ali Hepher. The Welsh were back in front when scrum half Tom Lewsey went over the Bedford try line for an unconverted try. Bedford then took control and by half time had gone into a 20-8 lead. There were tries for scrum half Dom Malone and centre Mike Staten, both were converted by Hepher who also kicked a second penalty goal.
Full back Dan Howells got the home side back in the second half with a try which Pugh converted to get back within five of the Blues. The visitors though responded with a try from there other centre Tom Kirk and Hepher added the extras.
The Welsh got back in the match again when Howells slotted over a penalty goal before centre Adam Bidwell went over for a try and with Pugh converted they trailed 25-27. Hepher rounded of the win for the visitors with a late penalty goal.

Big win for Orrell with an 11 try thrashing of bottom of the table Manchester
Orrell were quick out of the blocks and scored three tries in the opening 13 minutes to go 21-0 ahead. Three more tries before half time including a double for winger Richard Welding saw the home side score 42 points in the opening half. Manchester did cross the home line a couple of times in the half and had notched up 17 points in the first half.
In the opening three minutes of the second half Welding went on to complete his ht trick and then get a fourth try and after seven successful conversion Leigh Hinton had his only miss of the afternoon with the boot.

Wakefield 11 (Try: Feeley. Pens: Murphy 2.)
Fairly straight forward home win for Otley against fellow Yorkshire side Wakefield.
It took 25 minutes for the deadlock to be broken with centre Rob Whatmuff crossing the visitors line and the ever-reliable boot of Simon Binns converted for 7-0. Four minutes later Wakefield were off the mark with winger Jon Feeley going in for an unconverted try with Peter Murphy unable to find the target. Binns and Murphy then exchanged penalty goals but on 40 minutes Otley scored their second try through second row Jason Oakes and again Binns found the target for a 17-8 lead.
In the second half it was Otley who were in control after going further ahead just a minute into the half with prop Justin Wring going over and Binns converting. Murphy did pull three points back with a penalty goal but full back Ian Shuttleworth bagged a brace of tries to see the home side pull for a comfortable win.
Penzance & Newlyn 10 (Tries: Bearman, Thirlby.)
Exeter Chiefs 42 (Tries: Yapp, Richard Baxter, Trethewey, Rasmussen, Miller, Murdoch. Cons: Yapp 6.)
Comprehensive win for Exeter Chiefs with three converted tries in each half. Tony Yapp led the way with the first try in the seventh minute and he slotted over the conversion. He converted all the tries with the Chiefs having six different try scorers in the match. The Pirates did manage a couple of tries themselves either side of half time but Exeter were always in control a they continued their excellent second half of the season.
Pertemps Bees 20 (Tries: Nabaro 2, Fletcher. Con: Woodrow. Pen: Woodrow.)
Plymouth Albion 23 (Tries: Thomas, Schusterman. Cons: Carrington. Pens: Carrington 3.)
Plymouth Albion are up to third after this away win at Pertemps Bees who now displace in third spot.
The visitors went ahead with flanker Danny Thomas going over for a second minute try which was converted by Matt Carrington. The Bees were level just two minutes later when centre Luke Nabaro went over the Albion line and Mark Woodrow converted.
In the 12th minute Albion were back in front with a try from flanker Martin Schusterman and again Carrington converted before adding a 15th minute penalty goal for a 17-7 lead. Woodrow added a penalty for the home side on 20 minutes but three minutes later Carrington responded for the visitors. Before half time Nabaro grabbed a second try for the Bees and they went in five points adrift.
Eight minutes into the second half and Carrington kicked another penalty goal to give the visitors an eight-point lead.
Second row Neil Fletcher got the third Bees try but Woodrow was unable to convert and the visitors led by three. That was how it stayed till the end although Carrington did miss a penalty to extend the visitors lead.
Bristol Shoguns 38 (Tries: Marsden, Hodgson, Evans, Bailey. Cons: Davey 3. Pens: Davey 4)
Henley Hawks 10 (Try: Winterbottom. Con: Reeves. Pen: Reeves.)
Comfortable home win for the Shoguns against a Henley Hawks side desperate to pick up some points in their bid to stay ahead of Coventry in the table.
Bristol were ahead on seven minutes with full back Sean Marsden crossing the Hawks line and Brett Davey adding the extras. Davey added a penalty on 15 minutes for a 10-0 lead. Scrum half Paul Hodgson scored the second try and although Davey missed the conversion he slotted over a second penalty goal on 31 minutes.
Barry Reeves got the Hawks off the mark with a penalty goal on 35 minutes but the Shoguns had the final say in the half with winger Owen Evans going over on 40 minutes and Davey converted for a 25-3 half time lead.
Three minutes into the second half and Henley went over for a try through second row James Winterbottom and Reeves converted. Davey slotted over a couple of penalty goals to keep the home side in control before rounding of the win with a try from replacement winger James Bailey and again Davey was on target. |
