Rosslyn Park 13 (Tries: Hayes, Ridley. Pen: Howard.)
Esher secured their National Two status and sent Rosslyn Park back down to National Three South with this home success.
Hooker Mark Bennett got the games opening score with a 14th minute try which was converted by the reliable boot of Emile Wessels for a 7-0 lead which became 10-0 after 19 minutes with a Wessels penalty goal.
Park were on the scoreboard four minutes later with a try from second row James Hayes that went unconverted. Two minutes later though Esher No 8 Chris Wilkins, which Wessels converted for a 17-5 lead. Just before the half hour mark the visitors were back within a score with a try from centre Martin Ridley but again it was unconverted. Before the break Wessels and Sam Howard exchanged penalty goals to send the home side in 20-13 ahead.
The second half was a different story with the home side taking control to pull away for a comfortable win. Five minutes in hooker Mark Bennett completed a double before Wessels himself went over for a try, which he converted to lead 32-13 on the hour mark. The final try came from winger Nyasha Shumba in the last 10 minutes.
Moseley 9 (Pens: Thomas 3.)
Nuneaton 18 (Tries: Dutton, Peacock. Con: Peacock. Pens: Peacock 2.)
With the top two winning Nuneaton have had to settle for third placed in National Two which is a great achievement in there first season back at this level.
Despite the loss Moseley are safe but lost a close match after taking an early lead with two penalties in the 23rd and 44th minutes. Nuneaton got on the scoreboard when full back Jody Peacock went over for his 16th try in the 46th minute but could not add the conversion to give the Nuns the lead. They did though go ahead on the hour when Peacock slotted over a penalty goal.
Moseley were back ahead five minutes later when Oliver Thomas slotted over his third penalty goal. The lead lasted just a minute when centre Craig Dutton went over and Peacock converted it for a 15-9 lead. Late in the game Peacock took them a couple of scores clear with a penalty goal.
Newbury 41 (Tries: Leadbeater, McCluggage, Wood, Collins, Ireland, Lubans. Cons: Armstrong 3.)
Bracknell 15 (Tries: Wallis, Shipway. Con: Hallett. Pen: Hallett.)
Excellent home win for Newbury, which sees them climb to seventh in the league table.
They were ahead after just 26 seconds with full back Gary Leadbeater and with Mark Armstrong making it 7-0. Bracknell got on the scoreboard with Neal Hallett slotting over a penalty goal. On 12 minutes Newbury were 14-3 ahead with scrum half Marcus McCluggage went over for a try, which was again converted. There excellent start continued when flanker Richard Wood went over for a try on 18 minutes and again it was converted for a 21-3 lead. Armstrong made it 24-3 at half time with a penalty goal.
They continued where they left off and in the second half scored two tries in the opening 11 minutes for a 36-3 lead with prop Neil Collins and centre Mark Ireland crossing the visitors line.
Bracknell stopped the rot with a couple of tries but the home side had the final say with No 8 Dave Lubans going over to wrap up the win on 78 minutes.
Nottingham 55 (Tries: N Starling 2, Cook, Coles, Duffey, Lloyd, Fallon, Easter. Cons: Stenhouse 5, Jackson. Pen: Stenhouse.)
Lydney 21 (Tries: Price 2. Con: Croudace. Pens: Croudace.)
Nottingham secured promotion to National One with this win over Lydney with an eight-try display.
The home side were 19-0 ahead after 22 minutes with three tries from centres Neil Starling and Alan Cook along with winger Warren Coles and Stenhouse added a couple of conversions.
Just before the break Lydney did get on the scoresheet with prop Paul Price going over for a try and a penalty from Dave Croudace.
Three minutes into the second half Price completed a double and with Croudace converting they were within four points of Nottingham.
A try on 49 minutes from hooker Joe Duffey put the home side on the scoreboard again with a try, which Neil Stenhouse converted. Croudace slotted over a penalty for the visitors but a 15 point blast in five minutes took the home side clear as Starling completed a double and flanker Richard Lloyd went over for tries and Stenhouse added a conversion and penalty for a 41-18 lead. Nottingham sealed the win with a couple of late tries and promotion was secured.
Sedgley Park 27 (Tries: Arnold, Voortman, Glynn 2. Cons: Ueckermann 2. Pen: Ueckermann.)
Doncaster 17 (Tries: Norris, Liley. Cons: Liley 2. Pen: Liley.)
Good win for Sedgley Park in what could have been a difficult match and was not settled till late on.
Park were first on the scoreboard with Ryno Ueckermann slotting g over a 3rd minute penalty goal. Second row Paul Arnold got the games opening try on 14 minutes and with Ueckermann converting they were 10-0 ahead. Doncaster though responded well and were level by half time with second row Ed Norris going over for a try which Rob Liley converted and then added a penalty to tie the scores.
Centre Ian Voortman put the home side ahead again on 55 minutes with a try but five minutes later Doncaster went ahead for the first time in the match with Liley crossing the home line and adding the conversion for 17-15.
Park though had winger Chris Glynn to thank for the win with two tries in the closing minutes and a Ueckermann conversion and promotion was guaranteed.
Stourbridge 32 (Tries: Horrobin, Meadows, Bressington. Con: Harvey. Pens: Harvey 5.)
Rugby Lions 23 (Tries: Handley, Reed, Collins. Con: Rahui. Pens: Rahui 2.)
Rugby Lions suffer successive relegations after this loss at Stourbridge.
The Lions started better and went over for the first try with scrum half Toby Handley going over and although Terry Rahui missed the conversion he did add an 8th minute penalty goal for an 8-0 lead. Ben Harvey slotted over an 18th minute penalty goal to get on the scoreboard. Rugby winger Phil Reed then got a second try and with Rahui converting they were 15-3 ahead.
By half time the home side were back on level terms. Tries from the back row pair of Paul Meadows and Julian Horrobin and five points form the boot of Harvey and Rahui kicking another penalty for Rugby it was 18 all.
Second half was a different story with Stourbridge tasking control with the boot of Ben Harvey slotting over three penalty goals and Nathan Bressington running in his 17th try of the season to top the try scorers list. Rugby did get a late try but it was too late by then and Rugby have got to come to terms with a second successive relegation.
Wharfedale 15 (Tries: Baggett, Lister. Con: Pears. Pen: Pears.)
Harrogate 20 (Tries: Tapster, Morgan, Barker. Con: Cholewa. Pen: Cholewa.)
Harrogate won this Yorkshire derby at Wharfedale with three tries form their backs.
The visitors went ahead on six minutes with left wing James Tapster going over and Lee Cholewa adding the conversion for a 7-0 lead. On 21 minutes Cholewa kicked a penalty goal for 10-0 before the home side came back into it. Centre Andrew Baggett went over on 23 minutes for the home side and David Pears converted for 10-7 and it stayed that way till half time.
In the second half two tries in the opening ten minutes saw the visitors pull away into a 20-7 lead as scrum half Rhys Morgan and centre Jamie Barker went over but neither were converted.
On the hour mark Pears kicked a penalty goal but they were still two scores behind. The final score came from Wharfedale second row David Lister but it was too late and Harrogate took the points to move up to sixth place. |
