Blackheath did enough as they avenged an early season defeat at the hands of Tabard with a comfortable win at home.
Derek Coates got them on their way with a penalty goal before fly half Steve McCashin went over for the opening try in the 19th minutes and the boot of Coates added the extras. McCashin added a second try on 40 minutes and the home side went in 15-0 ahead.
In the second half Coates added a couple of early penalty goals to push the lead out to 21-0. Flanker Ken Aseme got the third try on 63 minutes and again Coates was on target and then added a fourth penalty goal. The win was sealed by a late try from scrum half Nick Maurer and the reliable boot of Coates was again on target as Blackheath extend their points difference advantage over Launceston to 29.
Haywards Heath 36 (Tries: Mackie 2, Fleming, Griffin, Salisbury. Cons: Griffin 4. Pen: Griffin.)
Old Colfeians 16 (Try: Jarrett. Con: Powell. Pens: Powell 3.)
Haywards Heath guaranteed their place in National Three South with this home success over Old Colfeians as Dings were beaten at Old Patesians.
The visitors took the lead with a penalty goal from Keith Powell but three minutes later HH took the lead with second row Jonathan Salisbury going over for the games first try and High Griffin converting and then adding a penalty five minutes later for 10-3 lead.
In the 15th minute though it was all square after right wing Mark Jarrett went over and Powell converted. The home side went ahead again on 26 minutes with full back Griffin going over and adding the conversion and that was the half time score with HH 17-10 ahead.
Centre Peter Fleming went over four minutes into the second half and with Griffin again converting they were 14 points clear.
Powell kept the visitors in the game with a couple of penalty goals on 49 and 54 minutes.
But centre James Mackie then bagged a brace of tries to pull the home side 36-16 ahead with 10 minutes left and that’s how it stayed with the home side picking up the points.
North Walsham 25 (Tries: Thorpe 2, Van Poortvliet. Cons: Wyatt 2. Pens: Wyatt 2)
Southend 10 (Try: McDonald. Con: Chambers. Pen: Chambers.)
North Walsham confirmed third place in National Three South with this home success over Southend.
The home side went ahead on 15 minutes with a Jonny Wyatt penalty goal after Ali Chambers had missed an earlier chance to give the visitors the lead.
A minute later though Southend were level with Chambers finding the target and they went ahead on 25 minutes with flanker David McDonald going over for the games opening try and with Chambers converting it was 10-3. Two tries in the last ten minutes of the half saw the home side turn it around and go in with a 15-10 lead. On 31 minutes flanker Jeff Van Poortvliet went over for a try that Wyatt converted and then in injury time the prolific Andy Thorpe went in and this time it went unconverted.
Six minutes into the second half saw the home side go eight points clear it took them till the 77th minute though before they wrapped up the win. Thorpe completing a double with his 17th try of the season.
Old Patesians 35 (Tries: Pettigrew 2, Nock, Penalty try. Cons: Nock 3. Pens: Nock 3)
Dings Crusaders 22 (Tries: Johnson, Jenkins, Murrell. Cons: Gasson 2. Pen: Gasson.)
Old Pats continue their good run of form with another win as they send Dings Crusaders back down in Powergen South West One.
No 8 James Pettigrew gave the home side the lead with a 4th minute try that Robert Nock converted. The visitors got on the scoreboard in the 22nd minute when Waylon Gasson slotted over a penalty goal. Nock then kicked a couple of penalties for the home side before the referee awarded them a 40th minute penalty try which Nock converted for a 20-3 lead at the break.
In the second half Old Pats were first ion the scoreboard with Pettigrew completing a double and with Nock adding a penalty on 48 minutes they were 28-3 ahead.
Dings though went down fighting and scored a couple of tries, which were both converted by Gasson to reduce the arrears to 11 points. But Nock took his total for the match too 20 with a 72nd minute try which he also converted. Dings did get a third try but it was too late and after a brave attempt Dings are relegated straight back down.
Redruth 13 (Tries: Cooper, Hymans. Pen: Martin.)
Launceston 28 (Tries: Sprangle, Dyer, Griffiths. Cons: Porter 2. Pens: Porter 3.)
Launceston scored an excellent away win at Redruth but fell further behind Blackheath who improved their point’s difference by 38 compared to 15 by the Cornish side.
Launceston went ahead with a third minute penalty goal from leading scorer Simon Porter. They had to wait till the 23rd minute to go further ahead with the games opening try from flanker Wayne Sprangle and an 8-0 lead. In the 35th minute Redruth hooker Glen Cooper went over for his 10th try of the season but within a couple of minutes Launceston were over for a second try. It came from the other flanker Steve Dyer and this time Porter converted for a 15-5 lead at half time.
Early in the second half Porter and Simon Martin exchanged penalty goals before the visitors scored a third try. It came from second row John Griffiths and Porter converted for a 17-point lead.
Just after the hour mark the home side scored a second try through centre Andy Hymans that went unconverted.
The final score of the match went to the visitors with Porter adding a third penalty goal.
Westcombe Park 66 (Tries: De Kock 4, Hardcastle 2, Hooke, Croall, Jervis, Peters. Cons: Garfoot 8.)
Basingstoke 7 (Try: Cullum. Con: Northcote.)
Another big home win for Westcombe Park with a ten try 10-try display against Basingstoke.
Four tries in the first half, all converted by Mark Garfoot, saw the home side go in 28-7 ahead at half time with four different players getting on the score sheet.
Three more tries in the third quarter saw Park pull further ahead at 47-7. In the final quarter Park full back Gert De Kock ran in three tries to add to his first half effort and shot too the top of the Three South try scorers list with 19. Centre Mark Garfoot had a good day with the boot converting eight of the ten tries.
Weston 23 (Tries: Glen, Bird, Gordon. Con: Reid. Pens: Reid 2.)
Barking 11 (Try: Azzopardi. Pen: Azzopardi 2.)
Weston finally got a win after a dreadful run of results over the last few months.
It was Barking who took the lead when Justin Azzopardi kicked a 10th minute penalty goal. Four minutes later though the home side were in front with a try from second row Andy Glen which James Reid converted for a 7-3 lead. Azzopardi slotted over a second penalty on 25 minutes to reduce the deficit to two points. With half time approaching hooker Declan Bird got the second try for Weston and they went in 12-6 ahead.
Just after half time flanker Jonny Gordon went over for the third Weston try and they were 11 points clear.
Azzopardi did get a try on the hour mark for Barking to get them back in the game but two Reid penalties in the final quarter saw Weston home. |
