In at the Corner - National two

Check out all the action from the final weekend of action in National Two as Sedgley Park take the title.

Rugby Lions 35 (Tries: Handley 2, Reed, Rahui, Penalty try. Cons: Rahui 5.)

Sedgley Park 50 (Tries: Bullough 2, Voortman 2, McCormack, Fourie, De Jager. Cons: Ueckermann 6. Pen: Ueckermann.)

Sedgley Park got the win to take the National Two title with this away win at already relegated Rugby Lions.

The first quarter was scorelees and it was 22 minutes when the first score saw the visitors go 5-0 ahead with a try form winger Ross Bullough. In the 31st minute the Lions went ahead with fly half Tereau Rahui went over for a try and added the conversion for 7-5.

Park though were ahead by the break with Ryno Ueckermann slotting over a penalty and then converting a try form centre Ian Voortman for a 15-7 lead.

In the opening 10 minutes of the second half Park took the lead out to 29 points with three more tries. Voortman and Bullough completed doubles and scrum half Dave McCormack also got on the score sheet with Ueckermann converting all three of them.

On 56 minutes scrum half Toby Handley got a second try for the home side and Rahui converts. Player coach Tim Fourie got the sixth Park try on 62 minutes before Rugby staged a mini revival. Three tries in 12 minutes from the 66th to the 78th minutes saw then reduce the score to 35-43.

Park though scored an injury time try to finish three scores ahead and take the title.    

 

Nuneaton 24 (Tries: Munro 2, Peacock, Prosser. Cons: Holmes 2.)

Nottingham 29 (Tries: N Starling, Stenhouse, Logan. Cons: Stenhouse 3. Pen: Stenhouse.)

Nottingham finish the season hot on the heels of champions Sedgley Park with this away win at Nuneaton who were going for the double over them.

Flanker John Munro gave the home side the lead in the 22nd minute with an unconverted try. Nottingham were on the scoreboard on 30 minutes when Neil Stenhouse kicked a penalty goal. Nuneaton though got a second try before half time as Munro completed a double and a 10-3 half time lead.

In the second half Nuneaton went 17-3 ahead when full back Jody Peacock went over for a try and Wayne Holmes added the conversion after taking over the goal kicking.

Two tries in four minutes saw the visitors draw level with Stenhouse scoring the first try and centre Neil Starling got the second on 54 minutes and Stenhouse converted them both.

Four minutes later and Nuneaton were again seven points clear when Tristan Prosser Shaw went over and Holmes again converted.

Nottingham won the game in the final minutes when Starling got a second try and Stenhouse converted to level the scores. Full back Will Logan got the winning try to finish the season with a win.  

 

Doncaster 40 (Tries: Greenslade, Tau, Hunt, Jones. Cons: Liley 4. Pens: Liley 4.)

Wharfedale 23 (Tries: Malherbe, Lister. Cons: Pears 2. Pens: Pears 2. DG: Davies.)

Doncaster fought back to win after trailing 20-6 after 20 minutes and looking at a home defeat. In that period Rob Liley kicked a couple of penalty goal. Wharfedale got tries form centre Chris Malherbe and second row David Lister , both were converted by David Pears and he also slotted over a couple of penalty goals.

Before the break Liley kicked a third penalty goal and then they got their first try of the match with scrum half Simon Greenslade going over and the reliable Liley added the conversion to trail by four at the break.

Liley kicked a fourth penalty goal seven minutes into the second half and three minutes later they were ahead with prop Ngalu Tau crossing the visitors line and Liley was again on target for a 26-20 lead.

Two more tries saw the home side pull clear and go into a 40-20 lead before Jonathan Davies dropped a late goal for the visitors.

 

Harrogate 24 (Tries: Gabriel, Wilson, Tapster, Cook. Cons: Cholewa 2.)

Moseley 42 (Tries: Aston 2, Sigley, Binns, Samra, Penalty try. Cons: Thomas 2, McDonald 4.)

Mosley pulled off a great final day of the season win at Harrogate out scoring the home side six tries to three.

Harrogate made a great start to the match and went 12-0 ahead after 21 minutes with the props Paul Gabriel and Robert Wilson scoring tries and Cholewa adding a conversion. It got even better when winger James Tapster went over and they were 17-0 ahead after 24 minutes. Moseley got on the scoreboard on 28 minutes when they were awarded a penalty try by the referee and Ollie Thomas converted and then just two minutes before half time they were right back in it with Full back Andy Binns getting a try and Thomas converting to trail by three at half time.

In the second half a brace from their winger James Aston saw the visitors home and in the process saw Aston go to the top of the try scorers list in the division.   

 

Lydney 23 (Tries: Jenkins, Macrea, Price. Con: Westall. Pen: Westall. DG: Arnott.)

Esher 35 (Tries: R Jennings, Shumba 2, Barr, Butterworth. Cons: Wessels 5.)

Lydney were hoping to sign off with a win before life back in National Three South but it was not to be as the much improved Esher took the points.

Lydney got the perfect start when they went over for a second minute try when flanker Dean Jenkins went over and Adam Westall converted. Esher though were back on level terms with centre Ross Jennings touching down and Emile Wessels waa on target for seven all.

Westall gave the home side the lead again with a 14th minute penalty goal. Esher went ahead though a few minutes later with second row Mark Butterworth going over and Wessels again on target. Lydney were back within a point on the half hour mark when scrum half Dave Arnott dropped a goal and that was the half time score.

In the second half Two tries in the opening eight minutes saw Esher go into a winning lead with flying winger Nash Shumba and scrum half Graham Barr going over and Wessels again finding the target for 28-13.

Lydney refused to lie down though and fought back to 23-28 with tries from winger Andy Macrea and prop Paul Price in the 65th and 72nd minutes respectively. .

Esher though sealed the win when Shumba completed a double on 76 minutes and Wessels made it five out of five with the conversion.

 

Bracknell 23 (Tries: Appleby, Perkins, King. Con: Hallett. Pens: Hallett 2.)

Stourbridge 20 (Tries: Sturdy, Viggers. Cons: Harvey 2. Pens: Harvey 2.)

Bracknell finished the season with a much needed win in a closely fought match which they won late on. Ben Harvey kicked the visitors ahead in the 16th minute with a penalty goal. Neal Hallett replied for the home side three minutes later but they were behind two minutes later with a second Harvey penalty. Hallett levelled again on 8 minutes before we had the games first try, It went to the visitors with prop Adam Sturdy going over and Harvey converting for 13-6 half time lead. Second row Lee Appleby got the first Bracknell try on 47 minutes and Hallett converted for 13 all. Bracknell went ahead on 63 minutes when winger Chris Perkins went over for a try on 63 minutes and the home side were ahead. Six minutes later flanker Sam Viggers went over for Stourbridge and with Harvey converting for a two point, 20-18 lead. 

Replacement forward Jay King got the winning score in the 78th minute to give the hoime side the win.

 

Rosslyn Park 30 (Tries: Wardingley, J Justice, Cure, Howard. Cons: Howard 2. Pens: Howard 2.)

Newbury 20 (Tries: Leadbeater 2, Holloway. Con: Williams. Pen: Williams.)

Park end their one stay back in National Two with a final day win against Newbury.

Jason Williams gave the visitors the lead with a seventh minute penalty goal. Sam Howard levelled in the 15th minute, both sides scored tries but Park went in 11-8 ahead courtesey of a Howard penalty goal.

Two tries in the opening 16 minutes of the second half took the home side 25-10 ahead. Winger James Justice went over for his 15th try of the season and prop James Cure also crossed the Newbury line and Howard converted both.

On 68 minutes Newbury reduced the deficit with full back Gary Leadbeater going over and when he got a second try five minutes later it was game on as they trailed by just five points.

Howard though had the final say with a 79th minute try but missed the conversion which would have seen him go top of the points scorers in the division.
