New Era for Brunel Rugby

This month sees a change in venue for the Brunel University West London Club - after 110 seasons based at Borough Road. The club will be at Uxbridge, where the Sport Sciences & Physical Education students are now based. This has involved a merger of the two separate university clubs (Borough Road and Uxbridge) but the management team remains almost identical.

A new 1st XV coach has been appointed - John Lambden, the former Wasps 1st XV coach. He played for both Durham and Exeter Universities, as an undergraduate and postgraduate respectively. He takes over from Corin Palmer, who is now the RFU Academy Director at London Irish. Jan Bonney remains as Assistant Coach. The 1st XV Captain will be flanker Tom Miklausic (ex-England Schools and U19).

The majority of the 1st XV return, so the enviable record of three British Universities Championships (including the most recent one), one further Twickenham appearance in the final, plus two other semi-final appearances, in the nine years since BUSA began, should see them strong contenders again. The team will also be strengthened by the availability now of Uxbridge-based players such as Nick McClelland (ex-Ireland Schools and U19).

The club was delighted to see Richard Hill, the British and Irish Lion, become an Honorary Masters Graduate of the University in July. Richard played in two of the Twickenham finals and referred to them with pride in his acceptance speech.
