Parker Pen letter of the month

Dear Touchline
You’ve heard the one about the drunken sportsman arriving home in the middle of the night and telling his furious wife, “They played extra time”.  Well, recently the players of Les Quennevais Rugby Club improved on this gag, with two missing days to account for after beating Fawley in the Hampshire Worthington’s Bowl.

Stranded at Southampton airport when Jersey was fog bound, they used the time to improve their rugby education by watching Eastleigh play Fordingbridge, waiting for a call from the airline and sipping orange juice and lemonade. The fog cleared slightly but the only flight out was fully booked. They were forced to spend another teetotal night in their hotel. The next morning they took off at 7am, circled around Jersey and flew back to Southampton as conditions were too bad for landing.

Finally, at 7.30pm after 13 hours in the terminal they headed home on the only flight in or out that day. They had left at 11am on Saturday and returned on Monday at 9pm.

I’d like to assure their wives and girlfriends that their stories were all true and ask please can they have their boots back?
