Dear Touchline

Dear Touchline

Sat in a wheelchair space of the West Stand, it was with some dread that 20 minutes before the kick off I saw about 30 youngsters arrive with their bags to occupy the seats around us. They then disappeared to form the tunnel for the players and we were told by the steward that they would return shortly after the kick off.

A couple of minutes into the game they returned. I do not think that I have seen a group of about 30, 10ish year olds take their seats in such a quick and orderly way with no fuss.

They then sat for the duration of the game glued to the rugby, supporting England in an enthusiast manner, but without causing any distraction to those around. When they talked, it was very informed comment on the game.

They were I believe from Hartlepool and were an absolute credit to themselves, the person in charge of them (who also deserves great credit for his method of supervision), their school or club and the RFU Community Project.

If there is an opportunity for them to have a return visit, they certainly deserve it.

Kind regards
David Higgs
Bristol

Editor’s note: The children were from Hartlepool Rovers RFC, Billingham RFC, Guisborough RFC and Middlesborough RFC (see Twickenham Experience - page 13).
