St Joseph’s College from Stoke staged a stirring second half comeback to win the expanded West Midlands Army Sevens at Droitwich RFC.
Having trailed a Ludlow School side, coached by former Scotland ‘A’ international Stewart Jardine, 5-14 at the interval, they ran out eventual 26-14 winners with a burst of three converted tries in as many minutes in the second half. Droitwich HS won the girls tag competition by beating Bishop of Hereford School seven tries to five in the final. More than 180 boys and 120 girls, all from the U16 age group, took part in the finals day after progressing through county qualifying tournaments in Shropshire, Herefordshire, Warwickshire, Birmingham and the Black Country, Worcestershire and Staffordshire.
Last season the tournament was restricted purely to North Midlands schools but it has now been expanded to include the whole of the West Midlands, with the generous support of the Army. |
